Te Akau Te Rapa & Awapuni Saturday

Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Saturday 14 December: Te Rapa, and Awapuni.

Te Rapa:

Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: true. Showers forecast Saturday morning, otherwise fine.

2.35 p.m. R5 3 Scott Base  (5 g Dalghar - Extra Celestial) - Troy Harris; closed strongly under 60kgs for third, running a smart final 600m (34.3), when having his first start for the stable on 14 November over 1200 metres at Awapuni. He performed very well in an exhibition gallop between races last Friday at Matamata, and has the record to prove competitive in the $70,000 J Swap Contractors Sprint (Gr. 3, 1400m). Fixed odds: $6.00 & $1.90.

3.10 p.m. R6 4 Mazzuro (5 g Rip Van Winkle - Mini Pearl) - Craig Grylls; won easing down by two and a half lengths in the Rating 65 2100 metres here on 28 October, followed with a solid fifth in the Rating 72 2100 metres on 16 November at Tauranga, and close third in the Rating 72 2100 metres a fortnight ago at Ellerslie. A win at his only course attempt is perfect, but requires luck from barrier 12 in the $35,000 Rating 72 2400 metres. Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.80.

3.44 p.m. R7 1 In A Twinkling  (4 g Fastnet Rock - Moment in Time) - Troy Harris; returned to winning form under 61kgs in the Rating 82 2100 metres here on 28 October and backed up with a dominant front running display in the Counties Cup (Gr. 3, 2100m) on 23 November at Pukekohe. He appears set to prove competitive in the $100,000 Sky City Hamilton Waikato Cup (Gr. 3, 2400m), despite increasing two-kilos to carry 59kgs. Fixed odds: $3.30 & $1.40.

4.59 p.m. R9 1 Mongolianconqueror  (5 g Ocean Park - Queen Rania) - Chelsea Burdan (a3); closed strongly against a smart field when resuming in the Open 1400 metres on 26 October at Ellerslie, before finishing sixth in the Open 1500 metres on 14 November at Awapuni. Beaten a nose in the New Zealand Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m), he receives weight relief to 57.5kgs and has the ability to prove competitive in the $30,000 Rating 82 1600 metres. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.15.

Awapuni:

Weather: fine, track: Dead5, rail: out 5 metres. No rain forecast.

12.35 p.m. R1 8 She's Not Bad (5 m He's Remarkable - Andra) - Rosie Myers; did her best work through the line when resuming in the Rating 82 1200 metres on 16 November at Tauranga, and steps up in the $30,000 Rating 82 1400 metres. Impressive winning four of 10 starts, including here in April, she has blinkers on and rates a top three chance from barrier six. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.80.

1.45 p.m. R3 3 Challa (3 g Dissident - Are There Any) - Vinnie Colgan; resumed with a dominant victory in the Maiden 3YO 1100 metres on 1 November at New Plymouth, before finishing fifth here on 23 November in the $22,500 Rating 65 1200 metres. In the corresponding event, he rates a top four chance from barrier one. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.80.

4.02 p.m. R7 3 Lilikoi (3 f Charm Spirit - Barbadine) - Rosie Myers; ran the fastest 600m of the day (33.9) here on 23 November when coming from last to finish second in the 3YO 1300 metres. She did similar for second after a smart fresh-up win, both over 1200 metres at Taupo. Up in distance and class for the $70,000 Lawnmaster Eulogy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m), her dam, Barbadine (Giant's Causeway), won three times (1800m - 2300m), and she appears ideally placed to prove competitive from barrier four. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $1.80.
