Te Akau Te Rapa Friday Preview
4 October, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses racing on Friday 4 October at Te Rapa.
Weather: fine, track: Slow7, rail: true. No rain forecast.
3.38 p.m. R5 3 Military Step (4 g Tavistock - Marching On) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); followed consecutive thirds with an easy win over 1600 metres in April at Wanganui, trialled solidly in August at Te Teko, and resumes in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres. Ideally drawn (4), with weight relief to 55kgs, he can perform well first-up with a smooth trip.
3.38 p.m. R5 7 Scottish Star (4 m Bullbars - Highland Lights) - Opie Bosson; fought hard after trailing for a close second when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 14 September at Ruakaka, and steps up in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres. Her half-sister, Te Akau trained Our Abbadean (Lookin at Lucky), included a Travis Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) win here, and she has the form to rate an each way chance.
5.23 p.m. R8 2 Weaponry (4 g Declaration of War - Cat Shmea) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); won three from five during his first campaign, culminating with a dominant victory in the Southland Guineas (Listed, 1600m). Trialled on 3 September at Cambridge, he resumes in the $25,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. With weight relief to 57kgs, he meets a good field but should go well from barrier two.
