Te Akau Te Rapa Preview
21 January, 2017
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses racing on Sunday 22 January at Te Rapa.
As on Saturday 21 January the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail out 10 metres. 20mls rain forecast overnight Saturday and Sunday morning.
1.10 p.m. R2 6 Abbey Kay (3 f Keeper - Abbey Tralae) - Michael McNab; raced outside the leader and fought hard for fourth in a notable debut on 27 December in the Maiden 1200 metres at New Plymouth, after displaying grit to win a trial a fortnight earlier at Te Aroha. Her dam, Abbey Tralae (Traditionally), impressed winning here on Slow8 going over 1200 metres which should stand her in good stead for the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres.
1.40 p.m. R3 6 Astrid (5 m Pins - Astralita) - Opie Bosson; worked through the line solidly, with Te Akau apprentice Jasmine Fawcett (a4) aboard, for fifth when resuming off 162 days in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 1 January at Hastings, following a good trial for fourth. A determined race mare with the ability to act on a range of footing, she can certainly threaten in what could develop into a tactical affair, given a small field, in the Rating 75 1400 metres.
2.48 p.m. R5 6 Fashionably (3 f Redoute's Choice - Scarlett Lady) - Opie Bosson; was scratched off a wide gate Friday week ago at Matamata, and drawn more favourably in barrier seven for the Maiden 3YO 1600 metres. She closed off stylishly once balanced in the straight for fourth in the Maiden 1400 metres on 21 December at Tauranga, after finding the line in similar fashion for second on debut in the Maiden 3YO 1100 metres at New Plymouth, and should cop the ground given the exploits of her dual Group One winning dam Scarlett Lady (Savabeel).
