Te Akau Te Rapa Preview
2 May, 2014
Te Akau New Zealand has five horses entered for the ten-race programme on Saturday May 3 at Te Rapa.
As on Friday May 2 the conditions were: fine and Dead6, rail out 4 metres.
12:50pm R4 7 Seline (3 f Pentire - Dion) - Kelly Myers; tracked near the rail and rounded off solidly for second when resuming on April 25 in the Maiden 1400 metres at Avondale. Having had a quiet run back in the field, from a wide draw, she backs up off eight days into the Maiden 1600 metres and appears nicely placed to prove competitive from barrier three.
2:36pm R7 5 Quintette (3 f Alamosa - Everswindell) - Matt Cameron; was a winner and stakes placed from only four races as a juvenile and following a start in the Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) had to bide time with a cracked bone. After placing in all three trials, she now resumes off 399-days in the Benchmark 75 1200 metres. A good quality filly, she will be ridden with patience from a wide barrier and look to round off encouragingly.
3:46pm R9 10 La Adelita (3 f High Chaparral - Romantic Liaisons) - Matt Cameron; came from midfield on the inner with a strong close for second on April 5 in the Benchmark 65 1400 metres at Hastings. On debut prior, she came out of midfield to win untouched over 1400 metres on March 12 at Matamata. While the step to a mile appears ideal, she has been dealt no favours in drawing wide and will be looking for luck in running to then pose a threat - one of two in the race for Te Akau.
3:46pm R9 Wolfwhistle (3 c O'Reilly - Legs) - Alex Forbes; has been in search of reasonable footing since racing on March 29 in the Benchmark 65 1400 metres at Ellerslie, when making good inroads from back in the field. Requiring one defection to gain a start, he will be ridden patiently from the outside barrier and given genuine pace has what it takes to find his way into the finish.
4:21pm R10 6 Sovereign Rose (6 m Pins - Pavan) - Mick Dee (a1); had pointers of recommendation when winning first up at 17-1 on April 5 in the Benchmark 75 1600 metres in a slick 1:34.3 at Hastings, and been biding time since in search of reasonable ground. Off 28-days, she again contests the Benchmark 75 1600 metres. With the same rider engaged, she strikes a smarter line up and while destined to go over more ground next time out she can make her way into the finish with an economical run from barrier five.
