Te Akau Te Rapa Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses racing on Wednesday 20 September 2017.

As on race morning the conditions were: overcast and Heavy10, rail out 12 metres. No rain forecast.

12.32 p.m. R2 10 Te Akau Shark (3 g Rip Van Winkle - Bak Da Chief) - Opie Bosson; displayed natural talent when finding the line solidly in each of his three trials (2-3-3) and makes his debut in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. In his most recent trial, over 1000 metres on heavy ground at Avondale, he closed late for third to subsequent debut winner Vin De Dance (Roc de Cambes). From a strong staying family and out of Waikato Cup (Gr. 2, 2400m) winner Bak Da Chief (Chief Bearhart), he has the makings of a lovely three-year-old staying type. The breed has shown to act on soft ground and given his competitiveness to race, he seems capable of a bold first up performance.

4.04 p.m. R8 5 Wide Awake (4 g Savabeel - Kay's Awake) - Opie Bosson; recorded his Maiden win over a mile here on good ground in March, with Bosson aboard, and following a very good third at the trials he resumed with a top run on Slow9 for third in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 2 September at Hastings. He has shown a liking for this track, will strip fitter for his first up assignment and appears a genuine chance from barrier two in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres.
