Te Akau Te Rapa Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the eleven-race programme on Saturday July 19 at Te Rapa.

As on Friday July 18 the conditions were: fine and Slow8, rail out 10 metres.

12:07pm R4 6 Brer (5 g China Cat - La Fox- pictured above and below with Dan Miller schooling on Tuesday) - Daniel Miller (a1.5); fought well for sixth in the Hawkes Bay Hurdle 3100 metres on Slow8 at Hastings, and has since gained his steeplechase ticket. Fitter for recent racing, he now takes his place in the Maiden Steeplechase over 4000 metres. He raced well here previously for a fourth and sixth in two starts on the flat and while meeting a solid line up he seems capable of a bold performance providing he jumps proficiently.

2:26pm R8 3 Prospero (6 g High Chaparral - Alfred's Jewel) - Matt Cameron; came from back in the field when quickening away from the pack for fourth, on a day that strongly favoured horses near the pace, here on July 5 in the Benchmark 75 2100 metres. Over the same trip in Rating 85 grade, he meets a field no stronger and given there are only eight horses should see him prove very competitive.

Jason's bet of day: Prospero
