Te Akau Te Rapa Sunday Preview

Te Akau Racing has seven horses entered on Sunday 4 September at Te Rapa.

Weather: fine, track: Soft7, rail: out 5 metres. 11mls rain forecast Saturday and no rain Sunday.

12:15 p.m. R2 4 Devoted (5 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Michael Roustoby (a1); freshened after finishing fourth in the Maiden Hurdle (2500m) on 2 July at Hastings, and finished fifth in the Rating 60 1550 metres on 17 August at Cambridge (poly-track). He meets a strong field in the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (2800m), but should go well if further improved.

3:10 p.m. R7 1 Amarelinha (5 m Savabeel - Hopscotch) - Niranjan Parmar (a3); spelled after her notable fifth in the Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m) on 13 March at Ellerslie, and has trialled twice in preparation to resume in the $40,000 Open 1200 metres. She is a course winner at her only attempt here in the David & Karyn Ellis Fillies Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m), and a former NZB Filly of the Year. She has weight relief to 59kg, and while she prefers good footing she has the class to race well fresh-up - the first of a subtle trio contesting this flat feature. Fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.50.

3:10 p.m. R7 2 On the Bubbles (4 g Brazen Beau - More Bubbles) - Opie Bosson; peaked on his fresh-up run after working outside the leader in the Open 1100 metres on 6 August at Ruakaka, won by subsequent Foxbridge Plate (Gr. 2, 1200m) winning stable-mate Imperatriz (I Am Invincible). He has since trialled but was unable to quicken on the heavy ground at Avondale. He is course/distance placed at his only attempt, is a Group One and Karaka Million 2YO winner, and has the ability at his best to rate a top three prospect in the $40,000 Open 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.75.

3:10 p.m. R7 3 Belle En Rouge (4 m Burgundy - Cavendish Belle) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); scored a brilliant New Zealand Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) victory in March at Trentham, to tie with second placed stable-mate Self Obsession (Shocking) for the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year title. She quickened to win a trial on 4 August at Te Rapa, stretched out nicely for fourth when trialling on 24 August at Taupo, and resumes in the $40,000 Open 1200 metres. While destined for further, she is capable of a bold run but will require luck from hr wide draw (11). Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.70.

4:20 p.m. R9 3 Markus Aurelius (6 g Ghibellines - Evancho) - Opie Bosson; won the Coupland's Bakeries Mile (Gr. 2, 1600m) during Cup Week last November at Riccarton, and resumed with a circling run from last to finish fourth in the Open 1400 metres on 20 August at Ruakaka. Stepping up in the $40,000 Open 1500 metres, he likes the course but requires luck from barrier 15 to rate a top four chance - another event with a tangerine trio. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $2.00.

4:20 p.m. R9 8 Perfect Scenario (5 g Iffraaj - Rosetti Bay) - Niranjan Parmar (a3); resumed with a big win under 60kg in the Rating 75 1300 metres on 24 August at Taupo, and steps up in the $40,000 Open 1500 metres. He scored by a wide margin in the Rating 74 1550 metres on 11 February at Awapuni, and ended his campaign finishing fifth to stable-mate Prise De Fer (Savabeel) in the Open 1500 metres on 5 March at Ellerslie. With weight relief to 51kg, he is placed two from three on the course, and he has firm first four claims. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.70.

4:20 p.m. R9 13 Aromatic (6 m Sacred Falls - Vickezzchardonnay) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); ran home well from last in the Opunake Cup (Listed, 1400m) on 23 July at New Plymouth, has since trialled for fourth on 16 August at Avondale, and looked good in an exhibition gallop between races last Sunday at Matamata. The runner-up in the Rangitikei Gold Cup (Listed, 1600m) on 21 May at Trentham, she likes the course and is capable of a first four showing in the $40,000 Open 1500 metres. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.50.
