18 September, 2022
Te Akau Racing has eight horses entered on Sunday 18 September at Te Rapa.
Weather: fine, track: Heavy8, rail: out 10 metres. No rain forecast.
12:08 p.m. R1 5 Fashion Shoot (5 m Savabeel - High Fashion) - Opie Bosson; worked to sit outside the leader and was game finishing close second to stable-mate Zeitaku (Savabeel) when resuming in the Rating 65 1300 metres on 24 August at Taupo, and contests the $30,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. Twice a winner at the trip, including here at the corresponding meeting as three-year-old, she tries hard and rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.60.
1:18 p.m. R3 6 Devoted (5 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Emily Farr; finished seventh in the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (2800m) here on 4 September and receives an opportunity to improve in the corresponding event - one of two lining up for the stable. Fixed odds: $26.00 & $6.00.
1:18 p.m. R3 7 The Mighty Spar (5 g Savabeel - O'Dianne) - Aaron Kuru; finished solidly for fourth when resuming in the Rating 75 1600 metres on 28 August, and was third behind good horses in the Rating 75 2000 metres on 7 September, both at Matamata. Making his jumps' debut in the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (2800m), he has the top rider aboard. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.65.
4:14 p.m. R8 2 Amalfi Prince (4 g Sebring - Campania) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); ended his previous campaign winning the Manawatu Classic (Gr. 3, 2000m) on 2 April at Awapuni. He was then back and wide from the outside barrier (12) when resuming in the Rating 75 1300 metres on 24 August at Taupo, won by stable-mate Perfect Scenario (Pins). Look for an improved performance in the $30,000 Rating 75 1400 metres if appreciative of the course at his first attempt - one of a Te Akau trio lining up in the event. Fixed odds: $15.00 & $4.50.
4:14 p.m. R8 3 Supreme Khan (5 g Mongolian Khan - Angelica Hall) - Opie Bosson; got back in last his two starts at Cambridge (poly-track), and also contests the $30,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. First and second in two course attempts to date, he receives the ideal opportunity to improve from barrier three. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.50.
4:14 p.m. R8 11 Outfit (4 m Tivaci - Costume) - Michael McNab; ended her previous campaign with form in stakes' races, ran home strongly to win a trial on 16 August at Avondale, and resumed with an impressive victory in the Rating 65 1300 metres on 24 August at Taupo. She won a Maiden 1600 metres here at her only course attempt, and rates a top three prospect with any luck from her awkward draw (12) in the $30,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.70.
4:48 p.m. R9 2 Prise De Fer (7 g Savabeel - Foiled) - Tayla Mitchell (a3); ended his previous campaign winning two of his last three starts, most recently in the Canterbury Gold Cup (Gr. 3, 2000m) on 23 April at Riccarton, and resumed with a notable third in the Open 1400 metres on 20 August at Ruakaka. Contesting the $40,000 Open 1600 metres, the former Rich Hill Mile (Gr. 2, 1600m) winner is twice Group One placed, enjoys weight relief to 59kg, has placed in all four course attempts, and should race well with luck from the wide gate (14) - one of two in there event for the stable. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.80.
4:48 p.m. R9 5 Amarelinha (5 m Savabeel - Hopscotch) - Opie Bosson; finished back on heavy footing when resuming here on 4 September in the Open 1200 metres, and steps up in the $40,000 Open 1600 metres. A former NZB Filly of the Year, and Geoup One NZ Oak's winner, she won the David & Karyn Ellis Fillies' Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m) on the course, but is best however on good ground, so much depends on her handling conditions. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.
