Te Akau Te Rapa Sunday Preview
13 September, 2026
Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Sunday 13 September at Te Rapa.
Te Rapa:
Weather: cloudy, track: Heavy9, rail: out 3 metres. No rain forecast.
1:03 p.m. R2 10 Quenza (4 m Almanzor – Bavella) – Michael McNab; she ran home nearest the rail for fifth after getting back from barrier one when resuming in the Maiden 1400 metres on 16 August at Taupo, also with Michael McNab aboard, and contests the $25,000 Maiden 1500 metres. Prior to resuming, she finished strongly for second in a trial here on 4 August, has the blinkers on, and this looks an ideal opportunity for her to prove more competitive if she handles the track conditions. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.90.
2:17 p.m. R4 4 Kygo Star (4 g Wootton Bassett – Star Karen) – Wiremu Pinn; he settled back on a competitive pace, moved out widest into the straight and extended well for fourth in a trial on 25 August at Waipa, with Opie Bosson aboard, who was engaged to ride today but a late rider change needed to be made. The gelding resumes in the $40,000 Rating 65 1300 metres and is having his first start for stable. He won his Maiden over 1400 metres on Heavy9 going, has shown an aptitude for racing well when fresh but the draw (11) is the sticking point. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.60.
3:25 p.m. R6 10 Born To Be Royal (4 m King’s Legacy – Fatal Rendezvous) – Wiremu Pinn; she raced solidly fresh-up for fourth in the Rating 65 1500 metres here on 22 August, and contests the $40,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. Scratched from Hastings yesterday due to track conditions, she was twice Group Two placed before winning her Maiden over 2000 metres. She is ideally drawn (4) to rate a top three chance if Wiremu Pinn, fresh from winning a stakes' race at Riccarton yesterday for the stable, can secure a decent trip from barrier nine. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.10.
3:57 p.m. R7 9 Charmrose (5 m Charm Spirit – Sovereign Rose) – Kyle Wilson-Taylor; she ended her previous campaign winning the Open Handicap 1200 metres on 18 April at Ellerslie, and was not placed under any pressure when sustaining a strong gallop to win a trial on 25 August at Waipa. She has recorded five wins to 1200 metres, and was only narrowly beaten at her only previous course attempt. She's a gutsy, tenacious mare, races well when fresh and is a genuine top three prospect. Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.90.
