Te Akau Te Teko Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday Aug. 5 at Te Teko.

The footing was rated Slow8, with the rail out sixteen metres.

Heat 1 Open 1040 metres (½ head, 2 ½ lengths 1:04.5)
Osmunda (4 m O'Reilly - Wyndam Special - below) - Matt Cameron; was eased off the outside gate to track the field at the rear, and a staying type mare she worked home behind the pack over the sprint trip.

Heat 2 Open 1040 metres (neck, 3 lengths 1:04.7)
Rapid Gain (5 g Flying Spur - Occasional Gain - below) - Matt Cameron; began swiftly to breeze up outside the leader before steadying to third with cover at the 600 metres. He was held together around the bend and worked home nicely, without pressure, for third.

Alchemy's Flight (4 m Darci Brahma - Eloa - below) - Kelly Myers; trailed from barrier one and was unable to quicken up on going that proved far worse than she prefers.

Heat 3 Open 1040 metres (½ a length, 1 ¼ lengths 1:05.1)
Sir Darci (4 g Darci Brahma - Dominant - below) - Danielle Johnson; began well to travel alongside the leader. He took over in centre track on straightening and let down nicely in the going to win with his ears pricked.

Chambord (4 g Zabeel - Miss Montjeu - below) - Matt Cameron; worked up to trail under a hold and remained untested running home nearest to the rail for fourth.

Heat 4 Open 1040 metres (4 lengths, 1 ½ lengths 1:03.7)
King's Rock (4 g Fastnet Rock - Nureyev's Girl - below) - Matt Cameron; settled off the pace on the inner to be six lengths from the leader at the 600 metres and worked home nearer the rail in staying fashion, finishing behind the pack over the sprint trip.

Heat 5 3YO 1040 metres (½ a length, ½ a length 1:05.1)
Flaming (3 f Bachelor Duke - Flying Firebird - below) - Matt Cameron; was in front and on the bridle. She displayed a good action letting down under her own steam in the straight and showed typical gameness finishing second.

Heat 6 3YO 1040 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 ¾ lengths 1:05.4)
Darci's Dream (3 f Darci Brahma - Sweet Dreams Baby - below left) - Danielle Johnson; camped in third, she ranged wide on the track balancing for the run home and quickened up appreciably for a dominant win.

Smashing (3 f Pins - Ruud Van Slaats - above middle) - Matt Cameron; travelled outside the leader before being left in front at the 500 metres and worked home nicely without being pressured for third.

Heat 7 Open 1200 metres (neck, ¾ lengths 1:15.9)
Wolfwhistle (4 h O'Reilly - Legs - below) - Matt Cameron; found a lovely position in fourth and put into the contest wide on the track at the 350 metres he galloped out strongly for a nice win.

Heat 8 Open 1200 metres (1 length, 2 lengths 1:16.1)
Abidewithme (5 m Redoute's Choice - Crimson - below) - Matt Cameron; shadowed in front from barrier one on a steady pace, she worked home solidly on the inside of runners to finish a close fourth in what developed into a sprint home.

Heat 10 2YO 630 metres (head, 4 lengths 37.5)
2 c Fastnet Rock - Festival Princess - Matt Cameron - below; tracked a line of four into the straight, switched to the inside for a run at the 350 metres, galloping out strongly and made good ground for fourth.

Heat 11 2YO 630 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 37.8)
2 c Pins - Laurinel Princess - Matt Cameron - below; came from fifth in running without much room over the concluding stages and worked through the line nicely.

Heat 12 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (neck, ¾ lengths 48.8)
Virtuous (3 f Encosta De Lago - Virtus - below) - Kelly Myers; settled three back on the inner, angling across heels wide on the track rounding the bend and worked home amongst traffic.

Irish Mystic (3 f O'Reilly - Lodore Mystic - below) - Matt Cameron; jumped well to travel on the bridle in second. She was kept up to the task when coming wide into the straight and put in determinedly for a close second.

Heat 13 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (½ head, 5 lengths 48.8)
Vive La Difference (3 f Choisir - L'Artiste - below) - Matt Cameron; travelled up on pace to inside of three horses, entering into a duel on straightening and kept up a determined bid to gain the upper hand near the line.

Light Source (3 f Iffraaj - Shadow Ray) - Danielle Johnson; ended up in the worst of the going on the inside and found the sprint distance a bit sharp.

Heat 14 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (1 length, head 48.1)
Opulent (3 f Keeper - Silk Slipper - below) - Matt Cameron; from being handily placed on the inner, she cruised into contention under a hold at the 500 metres and remained on the bridle working home stylishly for third.

Zarules (3 g Zabeel - Gwen's Rules - below) - Mick Dee; settled just off the pace and worked home nicely amongst runners in a good trial performance for a staying type.

Heat 15 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, head 49.3)
Prince Henry (3 g Henrythenavigator - Ocean of Tears - below) - Matt Cameron; began smartly to lead on a nice rein, tracking wide into the straight and kicked strongly under his own steam to win handsomely.

Heat 16 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 47.6)
Astrid (3 f Pins - Astralita - below) - Matt Cameron; got back on the inner from barrier one and while unable to make ground, in the worst of the footing on the inside, she worked past the line okay.

Rock ‘N' Sox (3 f Road to Rock - Pteridophyte - below) - Mick Dee; was drawn to the outside after racing wide in midfield but was unable to make a lot of progress in the going.

Heat 17 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (½ a length, 5 lengths 48.7)
Rockfast (3 c Fastnet Rock - Gypsy Princess - below) - Matt Cameron; travelled down in the worst of the going from barrier one and while unable to make ground, on footing beyond his capabilities, it was still a nice resuming hit out.

Atua (3 c Murtajill - Silent Smytzer - below) - Mick Dee; jumped away well to lead and was held together on testing ground that never really suited him.

Heat 18 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (1 length, ½ head 48.5)
Bettorock (3 f Fastnet Rock - Astounded - below) - Mick Dee; after tracking a line of horses past the 500 metres, she received a nice split wide on the track at the 350 metres and let down with plenty of conviction to win well.

Scandinavian (3 g Dylan Thomas - Blanche Amelia - below) - Matt Cameron; got back on the inner from barrier one and while outpaced over the sprint trip he was never comfortable in this type of going.

Heat 19 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (2 lengths, ¾ lengths 48.4)
Tricoteuse (3 f Guillotine - Clearbrook Lane - below) - Matt Cameron; was easy off barrier one in order to track into a better part of the track, which she showed zip to do at the 500 metres while not her ground she was held together in a solid performance for third.

Frock (3 f Road to Rock - Mya) - Mick Dee; held her position throughout on footing that made it tough to make progress as the day wore on.

Heat 24 Maiden 3YO 1040 metres (head, ½ a length 1:05.3)
Sequitur (3 c High Chaparral - Deduction - below) - Matt Cameron; tracked in the worst of the going, midfield on the inner, before steadying to track wide into the straight. He worked home behind the pack, but went through the line strongly and ran past rivals after the line.

Heat 26 Maiden 3YO 1040 metres (1 ¼ lengths, neck 1:05.1)
Jewels Gift (4 m Stravinsky - Jesmonds Gift) - Mick Dee; began smartly from the outside barrier to camp outside the leader. She travelled in hand around the home turn and kept giving under minimal urging to cross the line in a photo for third.
