Te Akau Te Teko Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday April 26 at Te Teko. The footing was rated Dead5, rail out 14 metres.
Heat 1 Open 1020 metres (2 lengths, 1 length 1:00.8)
Shillelagh (4 m Savabeel - Trocair) - Matt Cameron; settled at the rear of eight runners, five lengths 600m, tracked up wide and worked home solidly the last bit for a close fourth.

Flaming (4 m Bachelor Duke - Flying Firebird) - Cameron Lammas; settled three back on the inner, camped behind the leaders in the straight and crossed the line under a hold in fifth.

Heat 2 Open 1020 metres (¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 1:00.9)
Latin Rose (4 m Mastercraftsman - Down View) - Jasmine Fawcett; found a nice spot fourth on the outer, clear on straightening and picked up encouragingly into third.

Heat 3 2YO 600 metres (long neck, ½ a length 34.9)
O'Naturelle (2 f O'Reilly - Naturo) - Michael McNab; was fourth and wide off an outside gate, flattening out with a strong finish to win well.

Play for Time (2 f Foxwedge - Procrastinate) - Matt Cameron; cleared the gates smartly to position outside the leader and never flinched to finish close in second.

Abbey Kay (2 f Keeper - Abbey Tralae) - Cameron Lammas; camped just behind the leaders and finished close up in fourth.

Heat 4 2YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, head 46.8)
Seductive D'oro (2 f Medaglia D'oro - Seduced) - Cameron Lammas; began well from the outside gate, posted three wide in fourth and ran home strongly for second.

Elegant D'oro (2 f Medgalia D'oro - Elegant Fashion) - Matt Cameron; tracked along fifth on the inner and ran through the line solidly, just off the first three.

2 f Alamosa - Eclectic Heights - Hanafi Noorman; got back in running but wound up to be doing her best work late in the piece.

Heat 5 2YO 800 metres (2 lengths, 1 length 48.1)
2 f Mastercraftsman - Lynisky - Matt Cameron; progressed through the pack to second inside the 600m and sustained a strong gallop to hold second.

Kiusan (2 f Choisir - Mystic Flight) - Cameron Lammas; camped behind the leaders in fifth, angled clear 200m and finished off resolutely for third.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 2 lengths 46.1)
2 g Echoes of Heaven - Replicate - Michael McNab; rallied through to lead, kept up a strong gallop without serious urging and was picked up near the line to finish second.

2 f Redwood - Volks Princess - Cameron Lammas; checked to rear early, but once balanced in the straight she quickened appreciably into fifth.

Kuia (2 f Guillotine - Triage) - Matt Cameron; got back in running over a sprint trip and looking for further she finished it off well for sixth.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (neck, 1 ½ lengths 47.6)
2 f Rip Van Winkle - Bak da Princess - Michael McNab; tracked into it wide from fifth, challenged to lead at the 200m and showed a bit of quality in winning very well.

Beaumarchais (2 g Savabeel - Almaviva) - Cameron Lammas; settled last, six lengths 600m, and ranging widest of all in the straight he presented with a strong challenge for second.

Pure Savalina (2 f Savabeel - Catalina) - Matt Cameron; led from an inside draw and fought hard for fourth after being collared a furlong out.

Heat 8 Maiden 800 metres (6 lengths, neck 46.4)
Cabaret (3 f Showcasing - Something Majic) - Cameron Lammas; was wide in midfield and kept up a strong gallop for fourth.

3 f Alamosa - Popsy - Matt Cameron; jumped away well but drifted over the sprint trip, five lengths 600m, and obviously requires considerably further.

Heat 9 Maiden 800 metres (4 lengths, 1 ½ lengths 47.0)
3 f Captain Rio - Capital Gold - Jasmine Fawcett; got back from the gate, eight lengths 600m and worked home near the inner with a good-looking action.

Heat 10 2YO 1020 metres (2 lengths, 3 ½ lengths 1:01.2)
2 g Alamosa - La Confidente - Samantha Collett; worked onto lead at the 800m and kept up a solid gallop near the rail for third.

2 g Darci Brahma - Spin ‘N Grin - Matt Cameron; got back in running and seen to be doing his best work through the line over a sprint distance.

Winehouse (2 f No Excuse Needed - Singing Star) - Michael McNab; improved from fifth on the inner passing the 600m, but struggled in the more testing ground on the inner in the straight.

Lady Jasmine (2 f Darci Brahma - Lady Classique) - Cameron Lammas; got well back in running.

Heat 11 2YO 1020 metres (dead-heat, ½ a length 1:03.0)
2 g Iffraaj - Double Elle - Matt Cameron; began well from barrier one to lead a line of three on the inner, angled to centre track on straightening and found plenty to dead-heat for first.

Zip Zap (2 f Stravinsky - Miss Zapper) - Alysha Collett; found cover three wide in sixth and once presented into the clear at the 300m she ran home solidly for fourth.

Shocking Luck (2 g Shocking - Shamardal Luck) - Cameron Lammas; got back last, but drawn widest in the straight he wound up a strong run and made many lengths.

2 g Charge Forward - Imposed - Michael McNab; camped behind the leaders and fought on in the straight.

Heat 12 2YO 1020 metres (long neck, 1 ½ lengths 1:02.0)
Wide Awake (2 g Savabeel - Kay's Awake) - Matt Cameron; began well to lead, tracked wide into the straight and kept galloping boldly for a close second.

2 f Redoute's Choice - Scarlett Lady - Cameron Lammas; camped on the leaders, but ended up beyond mid when things tightened at the 700m and she tracked up behind runners on straightening in a good educational performance.

Jimana (2 f Jimmy Choux - Love Me Not) - Michael McNab; got back in running and while good education, will be better with time.

Heat 13 Maiden 1020 metres (¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 1:01.6)
Christine Louise (3 f O'Reilly - Happily Ever After) - Matt Cameron; began smartly and well rated in front, she cornered with an advantage in centre track and kept going solidly for second.

Heat 15 Maiden 1020 metres (1 ½ lengths, dead-heat 1:01.8)
Sanhermano (4 m El Hermano - Santiga Lass) - Hanafi Noorman; was slowly away to settle clearly last, eight lengths 600m, but quickened up near the rail in the straight and made up ground into sixth.

Heat 16 Maiden 1200 metres (nose, 1 ¼ lengths 1:12.8)
Grandeur (3 g O'Reilly - Grand Echezeaux) - Matt Cameron; sprang the inside barrier to lead, third inner 700m and without urging, on footing a touch testing, ran on to finish fifth.

Heat 17 Maiden 1200 metres 1 ¾ lengths, 6 lengths 1:12.8)
3 g Sakhee's Secret - Spin ‘N Grin - Michael McNab; handy, three wide open on pace 700m, onto lead tracking wide into the straight and saw off rival for a strong win.
