Te Akau Team Spotlight

Recent Te Akau debut winner Clos de Tart has an admirer in Corrina Kendrick.

“She is so sweet and easy, has such a nice character and really tries hard. What more could you ask for in a racehorse?” says Corrina. Indeed her words proved true recently when Clos de Tart ran away to break her maiden at Te Aroha, showing true grit by coming from the back of the field on a heavy track.

Matamata native Corrina reckons that horses are in her blood and she never really had a choice of career path.

“My Mum always worked with horses, she even showed in the US and I always watched the races. It was only natural that I would work with them. At Matamata College, Opie (Bosson) was in my year for a time and he really encouraged me to work in racing. That's when I got a job working for Stephen Autridge and I've been in racing ever since.”

Corrina is also a vet nurse but prefers racing in that she rides every day and gets to be more hands on. Corrina has been with Te Akau for over a year now and has plenty of praise for our operation.

“I love being around nice horses and that seems to be all we have here at Te Akau. Not only are they well-bred but they aren't rushed. From breaking in to educating and racing we take our time and do a good job so that none of them pick up bad habits. We don't seem to have any naughty horses and that's why.”

When she's not on the job Corrina enjoys spending time with friends and her 4 year old son Dylan. “Dylan starts school in August and has just started with a pony. He's getting into it and loves riding.”
