Te Akau has one horse racing on Sunday 10 September at The Curragh in Ireland.
As on Saturday 9 September the conditions were: showery and yielding (slow) to soft in the straight - yielding with 7mls rain forecast and scattered showers on race day.
3.50 a.m. (Monday NZ time) 4.50 p.m. R6 6 Torcedor (5 g Fastnet Rock - Magnolia Lane) - Colm O'Donoghue; crossed the line solidly in fifth on 22 June in the £400,000 Ascot Gold Cup (Gr. 1, 4023m), run on firm ground, and resumes in the £260,000 Irish St Leger (Gr. 1, 2816m).
Purchased by Te Akau principal David Ellis for 70,000 Euro (NZ$115,000) at the 2013 Deauville Yearling Sales in France, he is owned by Sir Patrick Hogan, Sir Peter Vela, Mohammed Moussa and Laurie Laxon.
Winner of the Coolmore Vintage Crop Stakes (Gr. 3, 2800m) on 23 April at Navan racecourse in Ireland (in which he defeated current St Leger favourite Order of St George), Torcedor has won four of his fourteen starts, three seconds and a third and earned NZ$212,000 in prize money. He has shown his liking for the course with two wins and a fourth from three starts and currently rated 8-1 third favourite, with Order Of St George (Galileo) dominating the market at 4-9.
Following his last race, at Ascot, Ellis said: “It was good run by a relatively inexperienced horse, racing against the best staying horses in the world, and he's just going to continue to get better.â€
