Te Akau track work highlights - Thursday 14 April -
Course proper (Dead/Slow):
Tavis Star (Lammas) and Vinevale (Leveque) worked well together over 1000m in 1:08.7, last 600m in 39.5 Vinevale (Flying Spur) is set to resume next Wednesday in the Rating 65 1200 metres at Te Aroha, and Tavis Star (Tavistock) at the same meeting in the Rating 65 1400 metres.
Working 1000m three-quarter in preparation to race on Saturday, Windborne (M. Grylls) was followed in turn by Smashing (K. Jones). Following a top run for third in the $50,000 Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Trentham, Smashing (Pins) contests the $50,000 NZB Finance & Leasing Sprint (Listed, 1200m) at Hastings. Freshened since a strong third in the $70,000 Mr Tiz Trophy (Gr. 3, 1200m) at Ellerslie, dual stakes' winner Windborne (Darci Brahma) lines up in the $20,000 3YO 1200 metres at Tauranga. A good performance would aid her chances in the $70,000 Cambridge Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) on April 30 at Te Rapa.
Grazia (K. Jones) and Niamh Elizabeth (M. Grylls) went 1000m in 1:07.2, last 600m in 39.5. Grazia (Savabeel) is earmarked for the Maiden 1400 metres next Wednesday at Te Aroha and Niamh Elizabeth (Per Incanto) is to resume in the Maiden 1200 metres next Thursday at Woodville.
Splurge (McNab) and Xtravagant (Miller) worked together over 1000m in 1:08, last 600m in 38.5. Dual Group One winner Xtravagant (Pentire) is scheduled for an exhibition gallop between races next Wednesday at Te Aroha, in preparation for the $70,000 Cambridge Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) on April 30 at Te Rapa. Splurge (Savabeel) is preparing to race over 1400 metres in the next fortnight.
Sand track:
Fastnet Fire (M. Grylls) and Herschal (K. Jones) went an easy 1000m in 1:07, last 600m in 39.6.
Linchpin (Lammas) and Royal Success (McNab) did similar work in 1:07, last 600m in 38.6. Late scratched when the track downgraded yesterday at Rotorua, Linchpin (Pins) will contest the Maiden 3YO 1600 metres next Wednesday at Te Aroha. Royal Success (Savabeel) is scheduled to debut next Thursdayc 21 April in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres at Woodville.
Beacon of Hope (Miller) and Primrose (McNab) went and easy 800m in 56.7, last 600m in 41.1. Beacon of Hope (Fastnet Rock) contests the Rating 75 1400 metres next Wednesday at Te Aroha. Two-year-old Saperavi filly Primrose is preparing to head south and debut in the 2YO 1000 metres on 23 April at Riccarton.
Sand track, three-quarter pace:
Tatters (M. Grylls) and Stella Di Paco (K. Jones) worked over 1000m, ahead of their respective assignments on Saturday at Tauranga.
Last start fresh up winner Lady Pinot (McNab) was full of running over 800m.
Affinee (Miller) looked good when working to time over 800m.
Preparing for the Rating 65 2100 metres next Thursday at Woodville, Cathedral Cove (McNab) went 1200m.
