Te Akau Thursday Trackwork
Te Akau track work highlights - Thursday 21 July -

No. 2 Sand:

Iffraaj filly Red Poppy (K. Jones) in the company of O'Reilly Star (Leveque) covered 800 metres in 52.6, final 600 in 37.5. Cabaret (Fawcett) went 1000 in 1.15.

Multiple Group 1 winner Xtravagant (K. Jones) and Zambezi Warrior (Noorman) worked well together over 800 metres in 53, completing their last 600 in 38.5, both making good progress towards spring campaigns.

The pair of Alrina (K. Jones) and Carmenize (C. Grylls) worked over 800 in 54, running their last 600 in 39. Consistent filly Our Abbadean (K. Jones) galloped over 800 metres with Corporate Missile (Leveque) in 52, their final 600 in 38.

Melbourne bound Shillelagh (Coleman) and O'Know (Fawcett) covered 800 metres in 51, last 600 in 37, both pleasing co-trainer Stephen Autridge.  O'Naturelle (M. Grylls) followed the pair, running similar time, as did Paradise Rock (K. Hillis).

Course proper (Heavy):

Te Akau had a large team of 28 horses jump out on the course proper this morning, in preparation for trialling at Te Teko on 2 August.

Stakes' winning filly Sassy 'N' Smart (K. Jones), Lady Amadeus (Fawcett), Discretely Red (Noorman) and Tiffany's Time (S. Weatherley) were the first group to jump out over 600 metres. All looking well ahead of their spring campaigns.

Unbeaten and Group 1 winning colt Heroic Valour (C. Grylls) headed the second group to jump out for the morning. Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock) looks in sensational order ahead of trialling at Te Teko. He jumped out over 600 metres, with three other horses who show good promise ahead of their three year old season in Hall of Fame (Noorman), King Kane (M. Grylls) and Wide Awake (Fawcett).

A quartet of unraced fillies worked well this morning as they look to kick off spring campaigns at Te Teko ahead of targeting some bigger goals as they step out on race day in the spring. Lucy Wyldstyle (S. Weatherley), Unfazed (Fawcett), 2f Redwood - Volks Princess (M. Grylls) and 2f Rip Van Winkle - Bak da Princess (K. Jones) showed good speed over 600.

Beaumarchais (M. Grylls - below left), Ocean Rock (S. Weatherley - second from right below), Colorado Prince (Noorman - right below) and Play For Time (Fawcett - below second from left) jumped out over 600 metres. This group of four looks very well and is on target to trial on 2 August with spring racing goals in mind.

Beau and co

The first group of yearlings to jump out consisted of 1f Burgundy - Scicolone (S. Weatherley), 1f Burgundy - Paraiba (Fawcett), 1f Burgundy - Breezed (Noorman) and 1f Burgundy - A La Votre (M. Grylls). These fillies covered 400 metres and will represent freshman sire Burgundy at the Te Teko trials in the new season. Burgundy was bought and syndicated by David Ellis, and trained by Te Akau - so the Te Akau team looks forward to seeing Burgundy's first crop step out on trials' day.

Pacific Coast (S. Weatherley), Seirios (Fawcett), Silver Missile (M. Grylls) and Remington (Noorman) ran along over 400 metres. These colts are all striking types who will also head to Te Teko for an educational trial on 2 August.

The final group for the morning included Wandering Eye (S. Weatherley), Cousteau (Noorman), Dame Margo Fonteyn (M. Grylls - pictured below) and Nucleonic (Fawcett). They rounded up the morning with some strong work over 400 metres.
