Te Akau Thursday Update

David writes:

There is no question - this is definitely my favourite time of the year!

I love driving new and existing owners around the farm and showing them the yearlings that we have purchased.

The yearlings are selling at a record speed - of the 42 yearlings we purchased, 26 are already fully sold. Considering the sales only finished a week ago, this is an amazing achievement.

Thank you and well done to everyone who has invested with Te Akau Racing. In three weeks' time, we will start breaking in the yearlings - that's also an exciting time as we start to teach them all the skills they will need to be successful future racehorses!

We do break our yearlings in at Te Akau Stud - the farm is very dry at the present with 30 degree days sucking all the moisture out of the ground, but horses love the heat and all the stock are really thriving.

The colt I want to put a spotlight on today was superb buying - a snip of a price!

Lot 195 is our Contributor colt out of the stakes' placed mare Mapmaker, who is by Volksraad. Contributor is an exciting up and coming young sire by High Chaparral. I only paid $55,000 for this colt. He looks a Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas colt to my eye (and that's a race we have won six times in the past 14 years), that would train on to run in the Group 1 NZ Derby.

A 10% share is only $6,280 plus GST (which includes sales' expenses at cost and a full veterinary and x-ray inspection). So if you would love to win a NZ Derby or Auckland Cup, this is your colt. Email Karyn now [email protected] to secure your share.

In other news, our stable rider Opie Bosson informed me that Melody Belle felt terrific in her final gallop at Matamata this morning, ahead of the Group 1 BCD Group Sprint at Te Rapa on Saturday. It was great to learn that Troy Harris can ride her having successful appealed his suspension and finally, finally she has drawn a good alley (2).

Another of our gun fillies Avantage is also coming up really well, so that's very exciting news too. It's a thrill to have her back in the stable.

What a great day of racing we have coming up at Te Rapa on Saturday where we will have three runners - Melody Belle in the Group 1 Sprint, Savy Yong Blonk in the Group 2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic and Harlow, a Proisir filly I bought at last year's South Island Sale, will debut in the two year old race - sponsored by Te Akau.

GO THE TANGERINE and best of luck to all our owners.
