What an amazing 10 days it's been for Te Akau Racing!
To win half the races on Karaka Million night (including our 7th Karaka 2YO Million in a row), then to follow up with a Group 3 Wellington Cup victory for the Fortuna team last Saturday - then to head to the Karaka Sale and buy 27 of the best yearlings in the Book 1 Sale is just really incredible for the whole team.
It's so exciting because when you add the 27 Karaka yearlings (plus a Proisir filly today from Book 2) to the eight we bought at the Magic Millions' sale in January, we have such an exciting team to train next season for our owners.
The interest in Te Akau horses has never been higher and it's just phenomenal how quickly the shares in our new yearlings are selling. The response from our existing owners and new owners is massive. Shares are selling so fast we haven't had time to update the website with share percentages now remaining.
I came home early from the sale and the first thing I did was to inspect each colt and filly as they had arrived at Te Akau Stud.
There is nothing in the world that is as exciting as going around the farm and seeing all these promising young horses. We have bought magnificent youngsters and I am so grateful to my team of Mark Walker, Marcus Corban & Joe Walls, plus our vets Doug Black & Jack O'Brien for their help in identifying, assessing and securing all these beautiful yearlings - it really is a truly great team effort.
Each week I am going to highlight one colt and one filly that we have purchased that you should take a closer look at - firstly our colt ...
The colt this week is Lot 390, a Rubick colt out of One Massini, bought from a North Canterbury farm - Beaufort Downs. This colt was superb buying and I can see him running in the Karaka Million next year for sure. He is beautifully conformed and just looks a runner to us.
Rubick is also the sire of A$13 million Everest winner Yes Yes Yes and was a very fast horse himself as a two year old. He's already sired 445 winners including 11 stakes' winners. He's an exciting young sire on the rise.
A 10% share is $9,000 +GST and a 5% share is $4,500 +GST.
Our filly I want to highlight is Lot 538, a Brazen Beau filly out of Southern Romance. Brazen Beau of course is the same sire as our Karaka 2YO Million winner On the Bubbles, and was the Champion 3YO of his year in Australia. Our girl harks from a family known for leaving good fillies.
This is also a Karaka Million type filly that I could see training on to be a classic 3YO type, a Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas filly. She's a very attractive filly, with real class about her - a fluid walker, she covers the ground beautifully.
A 10% share is 12,000 +GST and a 5% share is $6,000 +GST.

The farm just looks amazing - I've never seen so much grass and the stock is in terrific shape. I normally keep selling steers each week till the middle of February, but I have put a hold on selling any more for now.
Best of luck to our owners with runners in the next four days. We have starters at Te Rapa on Friday; New Plymouth in the north and Wingatui in the south on Saturday; Tauherenikau on Monday, and Taupo on Tuesday.
