Te Akau Timaru Midweek Preview
Date: 23 Apr 2024
Te Akau Racing has six horses entered on Wednesday 24 April at Timaru.
Timaru:
Weather: fine, track: Good3, rail: true. No rain forecast.
11:58 a.m. R1 1 Beau Brummell (3 g Embellish – Fashion Forward) – Warren Kennedy; he closed the margin nicely with a solid finish when trialling on 16 April at Ashburton, and resumes in the $17,000 3YO 1600 metres. Winning two of his last three when drawing on reserves in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 23 March at Riccarton, he showed plenty of heart - as he did when producing a notable effort for fourth in the Southland Guineas (Listed, 1600m), and is hotly supported from barrier two. Fixed odds: $1.40 & $1.05.
1:43 p.m. R4 1 Plenty O’ Style (3 g Embellish – Opulent) – Warren Kennedy; he kept closing to the outside of runners when trialling on 16 April at Ashburton, and resumes in the $17,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. He followed a third and second, respectively, with an easy victory in the Maiden 1600 metres on 7 March at Riccarton, and has been freshened after finishing fifth in the 3YO 1600 metres on 17 March at Wingatui. He rates a top three chance but requires luck from the wide gate (14) - one of two lining up for the team. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.90.
1:43 p.m. R4 8 Valorious (3 g Heroic Valour – Maputo Express) – Ashvin Goindasamy; he remained beyond midfield when resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on 4 April at Ashburton, and steps up in the $17,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. The footing should suit and he is presented with the opportunity to improve over more distance. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.50.
2:54 p.m. R6 10 French Rose (4 m Burgundy – Paraiba) – Warren Kennedy; she received an economical trip and produced a notable effort for fifth in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 4 April at Ashburton. Drawn barrier one in the $17,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, she has first four claims. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.
4:40 p.m. R9 5 Can’t Kach Me (4 m Tavistock – Kachina) – Warren Kennedy; she followed a third and second, respectively, with a well-deserved victory when dashing away in the Maiden 2200 metres on 4 April at Ashburton, and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 2200 metres. The first of two in the event for Te Akau, she has unfortunately drawn wide (14) but nonetheless brings right form to present as a top three prospect. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.
4:40 p.m. R9 11 Our Milly Bee (4 m Merchant Navy – Rina Bettina) – Ashvin Goindasamy; she did well up in distance for first time when finishing third in the Rating 65 2200 metres on 4 April at Ashburton, and also contests the $17,000 Rating 65 2200 metres. She sprinted home to win here over 1600 metres in October, at her only course attempt, and looks a realistic top three chance. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.
