Te Akau Timaru Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has five horses entered on Thursday 21 November at Timaru.

Timaru:

Weather: fine, track: Soft7, rail: true. 12mls rain forecast Thursday.

12:27 p.m. R1 7 Knowledge Is Power (3 g Written Tycoon – Hectopascal) – Diego Montes de Oca; he was claimed near the line after leading when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1000 metres on 6 October at Awapuni (poly-track), and was just collared after leading in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 3 November at Ashburton. Contesting the $18,500 Maiden 1200 metres, he seeks improvement but will require luck from barrier 10. Fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.30.

12:27 p.m. R1 8 Hooray For Harry (3 g Harry Angel – Here We Come) – Kylie Williams; he travelled handily in the open and sustained a good gallop to win a trial on 7 November at Ashburton. Resuming in the $18,500 Maiden 1200 metres, he has the pace to overcome his wide gate (11) and will be looking to commence his racing career with a bold showing. Fixed odds: $2.50 & $1.35.

12:27 p.m. R1 10 Renaissance Man (3 g Almanzor – Kindred) – Ashvin Goindasamy; he kept giving to finish just behind the first three in a trial on 23 October at Te Aroha, and debuts in the $18,500 Maiden 1200 metres. Brother of stable-mate Kith ‘n’ Kin, the winner of three races to 1200 metres, he appears ideally placed to commence his new campaign with a solid effort from barrier six. Fixed odds: $14.00 & $3.90.

1:02 p.m. R2 14 Porcia Catonis (3 f Super Seth – Dark Heather) – Kylie Williams; she remained back in the field when trialling on 23 October at Te Aroha, and debuts in the $18,500 Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1200 metres (eligible $26,000 bonuses). This is an ideal starting point for the filly, but she is yet another that requires luck from a wide draw (12). Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.60.

3:22 p.m. R6 2 Sailing Away (4 g Merchant Navy – Anchovy) – Diego Montes de Oca; he kept going solidly to finish close up among the minors in a trial on 23 October at Te Aroha, and resumes in the $18,500 Rating 65 1600 metres. A maiden winner over 1400 metres, he placed on the course last season, and is presented with the opportunity to kick off his new season on a positive note from barrier six. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.15.

Note: Wiremu Pinn was scheduled to ride for Te Akau today however his flight was canceled, hence replacement riders as above.
