Te Akau Timaru Thursday Preview
9 October, 2025
Te Akau Racing has five horses entered on Thursday 9 October at Timaru.
Timaru:
Weather: fine, track: Soft7, rail: true. No rain forecast.
12:10 p.m. R2 11 Options Open (3 f Darci Brahma – Optimiser) – Bruno Queiroz; she rounded off solidly for fourth in a trial on 29 September at Riccarton, after winning a trial on 16 September at Ashburton, and resumes in the $18,500 Maiden 1200 metres. She has been consistently solid through the trials' stage, found line nicely when debuting as two-year-old, and rates a top three chance first-up. Fixed odds: $3.70 & $1.65.
3:47 p.m. R8 11 Best Rose (3 f Maurice – Queen’s Legacy) – Bruno Queiroz; she finished back in the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes (1200m) on 13 September at Riccarton, and was not far off at the line in a trial there on 29 September. She drops back in class for the $18,500 Rating 65 1200 metres, and is a filly who showed plenty as two-year-old, including a three-length win over 1000 metres on Soft7 footing - she has top three credentials. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.65.
4:23 p.m. R9 8 Hooray For Harry (4 g Harry Angel – Here We Come) – Amber Riddell (a2); he reeled in the leader to win Rating 65 1200 metres on 13 September at Riccarton, and maintained his advantage to win a trial there on 29 September. One of two stablemates contesting the $40,000 Rating 75 1200 metres, he has built a genuine record, handles give in the ground, enjoys apprentice weight relief to 55kg, and can be competitive with any luck from his extreme draw (18). Fixed odds: $17.00 & $4.80.
4:23 p.m. R9 9 Legally Binding (4 g Exceedance – Legal Eagle) – Bruno Queiroz; he raced outside the leader before being claimed late (second) when resuming in the $40,000 Rating 75 1200 metres on 30 August at Riccarton, and was not asked for much when running home well for third in trial there on 29 September. He too contests the Rating 75 1200m, has delivered two wins from four starts, and is set to make an impact in this line up. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $2.00.
4:58 p.m. R10 12 Queen Of Naples (4 m Darci Brahma – Tiffany’s Time) – Bruno Queiroz; she recorded back-to-back wins to 1600 metres in June/July on the poly-track at Riccarton, also with Queiroz aboard, and closed strongly once clear for second in a trial on 29 September at Riccarton. Resuming in the $18,500 Rating 75 1200 metres, she has compiled a very good record winning two of her four starts, and she certainly has first four credentials if the in-form rider can navigate a path from the wide gate (13). Fixed odds: $3.90 & $1.70.
