Te Akau Top Premiership Performers
We are delighted to see the new season kick off so well for Te Akau New Zealand - with Te Akau trainer Jamie Richards currently the joint leader of the Trainers' Premiership.
Jamie and the team are really on fire with a formidable strike rate of only 2.44!  That's unheard of for a major stable and is currently the best strike rate of New Zealand's top 30 trainers.

Premierships are based on performances during each racing season (August 1st - July 31st). The jockey and trainer with the most wins at the end of the season are the Premiership winners. These statistics are updated daily - source NZTR

Not only are Te Akau's horses firing on all cylinders but also two riders closely associated with our stable are proving very hard to catch on race day.

Currently the joint leader on the Jockeys' Premiership, former Te Akau apprentice (R) Shafiq Rusof, twice the Singapore Champion Apprentice when indentured to Mark Walker, has returned to New Zealand a skilled and savvy jockey.

Competing in Singapore for years, every week, against the likes of Joao Moerira, Manuel Nunes, Vlad Duric, Michael Rodd, Glen Boss and many other top international riders shows. There is no doubt that his talent is a welcome addition to the Kiwi riding ranks and his statistics tell the story!

Shafiq has already ridden 10 winners and leads the way with stakes' earnings too - he of course was aboard Melody Belle when she won the Group 1 Tarzino Trophy and also rode her to victory the start prior in the Group 2 Foxbridge Plate.

In outstanding form too is Te Akau apprentice Nik Bakar.  His 4kg claim definitely won't last long and what a start to his career - he returns south together with Shafiq today after a win yesterday aboard Seirios at Matamata, and will ride warm favourite ride Swing Note at Wingatui in the first.

To date Nik has had four raceday rides for three wins - an exciting future ahead for him for sure.
