Te Akau Trans Tasman Friday Preview
18 September, 2025
Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Friday 19 September at Te Aroha, New Zealand and two horses entered at Ballarat, Victoria.
Te Aroha:
Weather: showery, track: Heavy9, rail: true. 18mls rain forecast Thursday and showers Friday.
12:50 p.m. R2 6 Beau Brummell (5 g Embellish – Fashion Forward) – Jay Kozaczek (a1); he contested the Rating 69 2000 metres on 10 September at Cambridge, in preparation for his jumps' debut in the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (3100m). He has notched up five wins over 1600 metres, three have however come on good footing, and while he was unplaced in a hurdle trial here in August, much depends on how he handles the heavy track conditions he will strike. Fixed odds: $3.40 & $1.45.
1:25 p.m. R3 1 Fierce Flight (7 g Flying Artie – First Bloom) – Jay Kozaczek (a1); he finished sixth after leading in the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (3100m) on 23 August at Hawera where a lot didn't go his way in terms of where he was positioned, and contests the corresponding event. His two previous hurdle attempts resulted in two seconds, including one here. He is a stakes' winner of the Hawkes Bay Cup on the flat and has been twice Group Three placed among his six wins to 2200 metres. He enjoys the jumping tasks and here he does have the opportunity to bounce back. Fixed odds: $3.00 & $1.40.
Ballarat:
Weather: showers, track: Soft5, rail: true. Showers forecast.
4:00 p.m. (NZ) ~ 2:00 p.m. (Vic) R2 12 Sattva (3 f Savabeel – Mawzoona) – Ethan Brown; she found the line near the rail in a jump out on 18 August at Cranbourne, and debuts in the A$42,500 Maiden 3YO Fillies 1200 metres. She also lengthened out with a smart gallop to win when trialling as a two-year-old at Te Rapa. Her dam Mawzoona (Fastnet Rock) was a dual winner over 1200 metres in Australia, and she's from the family of Australian Horse of the Year Black Caviar (Bel Esprit), she appears promising and has opportunity to commence her racing career with a bold showing (note she holds a nomination at dual meetings). NZ TAB fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.20.
5:00 p.m. (NZ) 3:00 p.m. (Vic) R4 7 Cinturato (3 g Shamus Award – Pirellina) – Craig Williams; he ran on well for third after trailing when debuting in the Maiden 1100 metres on 17 August at Sale, and contests the A$42,500 Maiden 1400 metres. By Australian Champion Three-Year-Old Shamus Award (Snitzel), the first three-year-old to win the Group 1 Cox Plate and Group 1 Australian Guineas double. His dam Pirellina (Gio Ponti) won twice over 1600 metres, in is turn out of Group 1 Doomben Cup winner Cinque Cento (Nothin’ Leica Dane). His breeding suggests that he will be suited to the increased distance (note he also holds a nomination for Caulfield on Saturday). NZ TAB fixed odds: $2.30 & $1.30.
