Te Akau Trans Tasman Friday Preview
18 September, 2026
Te Akau Racing has one horse entered on Friday 18 September at Te Aroha, New Zealand and two horses entered at Ballarat, Victoria.
Te Aroha:
Weather: overcast, track: Soft7, rail: true. 30mls rain forecast Friday.
4:40 p.m. R7 5 She Suits Herself (4 m Savile Row – Sleepygirl) – Jay Kozaczek; she ran home belatedly down the outside from last when resuming in the Rating 65 1400 metres here on 3 September, and contests the $18,500 Rating 65 High-weight 1600 metres. She was a close second in the Listed Oaks’ Prelude over 1800m before winning her Maiden over 2100 metres last season. She has been course/distance placed on Heavy10, so the track conditions should hold no fear for her, and she is capable of delivering a top three finish. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.80.
Ballarat:
Weather: fine, track: Soft5, rail: true. No rain forecast.
3:00 p.m. (NZ) - 1:00 p.m. (Vic) R2 2 Fully Funded (4 m Snitzel – Bright Path) – Michael Dee; she ran on strongly from last to finish third when resuming in the Maiden 1000 metres on 30 August at Echuca, and contests the A$42,500 Maiden 1200 metres. She put in a similar performance to win a jump out prior to commencing her racing career, and has since placed in three of four starts. She should bring the type of form to prove competitive despite the disadvantage of her wide gate (12). NZ TAB fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.30.
5:30 p.m. (NZ) 3:30 p.m. (Vic) R6 4 Astari (4 g Starspangledbanner – Belzella) – Liana Wood (a3); he drew out to a winning advantage from a handy position in the Benchmark 56 1000 metres on 30 August at Echuca, also with this apprentice in the saddle, and contests the A$35,000 Benchmark 62 1000 metres. He is a dual winner, and a really consistent performer, so with the weight relief to 57.5kg, he’s in the right form to race well again. TAB fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.50.
