Te Akau Trans Tasman Friday Preview
23 October, 2026
Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Friday 23 October at New Plymouth, and one horse entered at Cranbourne, Victoria.
New Plymouth:
Weather: cloudy, track: Soft6, rail: out 7 metres. No rain forecast.
2:08 p.m. R3 3 Chica De Oro (4 m Medaglia d’Oro – Channeled’s Lady) – Michael McNab; she came off the trail and was strong through the line when resuming with victory in the Maiden 1600 metres on 3 October at Matamata. Contesting the $18,500 Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 65 Fillies & Mares 1600 metres (eligible $26,000 bonuses), she raced well in her three starts to 2100 metres last season, commenced this new campaign in good fashion, and rates a top three chance from barrier two. Fixed odds: $2.30 & $1.25.
2:43 p.m. R4 11 Viridian (3 f Noverre – Niamh Elizabeth) – Michael McNab; she got back in the rear group, couldn’t find much racing room behind runners in the straight, but ran on over a sprint distance when trialling on 6 October at Matamata. Debuting in the $18,500 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres, she looked good winning a trial beforehand at Avondale, her family performs well when fresh and is a home bred daughter of Niamh Elizabeth (Per Incanto) who has to date left five winners of nine races, and she’s a filly who looks nicely placed to race well from barrier five. Fixed odds: $2.90 & $1.30. She also holds a nomination for Race 5 at 3:18 p.m. where she has drawn barrier three.
Cranbourne:
Weather: fine, track: Good4, rail: true. No rain forecast.
11:45 p.m. (NZ) - 9:45 p.m. (Vic) R8 10 Stage ‘n’ Screen (5 m Ace High – Inthespotlight) – Logan Bates (a1.5); found line without much room after drawing wide (11) in the Benchmark 70 1400 metres here on 25 September, with Bates aboard, and contests the $60,000 Benchmark 78 1600 metres. Four wins to 1400 metres, placed at 1600m & 2000m, good record on home course, and ideally drawn (5) to show improvement. NZ TAB fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.10.
