3:29 p.m. R6 12 Hayate (6 m Maurice – Vamoose) – Yuga Okubo (a3); she had her last two starts over hurdles and returns to the flat in the $17,000 Rating 67 2000 metres. She finished off strongly for a course/distance second here in May,  and is a dual course winner to 2000 metres. She strips a very fit mare, has weight relief to a featherweight 51kg, and is nicely drawn (5) to make her presence felt. Fixed odds: $12.00 & $3.30.

6:30 p.m. (NZ) ~ 4:30 p.m. (Vic) R8 3 Savoir Faire (5 g Savabeel – Etiquette) – Tom Prebble (a2); he held his place in a bunched field in the Benchmark 78 2000 metres on 28 June at Caulfield, has been given time (25 days), and contests the A$50,000 Benchmark 74 1600 metres. He boasts a solid record over the mile, and the apprentice brings weight relief to 60kg. He has drawn well (5), and is more than capable of improvement if he handles the course at his first attempt.
