Te Akau Trans Tasman Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has one horse entered on Wednesday 5 August at Riccarton (poly-track), Christchurch and two horses entered at Cranbourne, Victoria.

Riccarton: 

Weather: fine, track: poly-track, rail: true. 

2:09 p.m. R6 3 Purple Prose (4 g Embellish – Lady Masako) – Hayley Hassman (a1); he did very well under the top weight (59.5kg) for a close third in the Rating 75 1600 metres here (poly-track) on 23 July, and contests the $45,000 Open Handicap 2200 metres. He has notched up four course/distance wins over 1600 metres, including winning three of his last five starts. He brings terrific form and rates a top three chance as he steps up to a middle-distance for first time. Fixed odds: $3.20 & $1.40. 

Cranbourne:

Weather: overcast, track: Soft6, rail: out 8 metres. 5mls rain forecast Tuesday and 9mls rain Wednesday. 

3:00 p.m. (NZ) - 1:00 p.m. (Vic) R2 6 Koko (4 m Written Tycoon – Tawteen) – Jackson Radley (a1.5kg); she sustained a strong gallop off the trail for second on Heavy9 footing in the Maiden 1000 metres here on 16 July, and contests the A$42,500 Maiden 1200 metres. She has a good pedigree, and has been such a consistent mare with three seconds, two thirds, and a fourth placing from her seven starts. She is so close to breaking through and enjoys weight relief to 56kg, but requires a lot of luck from her wide draw (17). NZ TAB fixed odds: $5.50 & $1.85.

6:30 p.m. (NZ) - 4:30 p.m.(Vic) R8 13 Get Honor (4 m Savabeel – Honor) – Michael Dee; she closed strongly down the outside for third in a jump out on 20 July at Cranbourne, and resumes in the A$35,000 Benchmark 62 1200 metres. She recorded a smart debut victory over 1200 metres on Good4 going, and has the pedigree being from the family of dual Group One winner Te Akau Shark (Rip Van Winkle). A mare of undoubted ability, she will however need to appreciate the prevailing track conditions, and she too has to navigate a wide gate (13). NZ TAB fixed odds: $19.00 & $4.60.
