Te Akau Trans Tasman Midweek Preview
2 September, 2026
Te Akau Racing has one horse entered on Wednesday 2 September at Ruakaka, New Zealand and one horse entered at Sandown, Melbourne.
Ruakaka:
Weather: fine, track: Soft6, rail: out 2 metres. No rain forecast.
4:04 p.m. R7 6 Uptown (4 m Savabeel – Urban) – Wiremu Pinn; she angled wide 400m and ran home nicely given she was unsuited on the heavy going in a trial on 4 August at Te Rapa. Resuming in the $18,500 Rating 65 1400 metres, she broke through at her third start when winning on Good4 over 1600 metres, is well-bred and talented, and shapes to race well first-up. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.75.
Sandown:
Weather: showers, track: Soft7, rail: out 12 metres. 3mls rain forecast Tuesday and 3mls rain Wednesday.
4:20 p.m. (NZ) - 2:20 p.m. (Vic) R3 6 Tolaga Bay (3 f Alabama Express – Camila Lucinda) – Michael Dee; she recorded a stylish debut win over 1200 metres in her sole start as two-year-old, and closed off strongly for second in a jump out on 17 August at Cranbourne, also with former Te Akau apprentice Michael Dee aboard. Resuming in the A$50,000 Benchmark 64 1300 metres, she is by Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) winner and proven Group 1 producing sprint sire Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice), and out of the four-time sprint winner Camila Lucinda (Lope de Vega). She presents as a good sized filly and brings the right record to race well first-up. NZ TAB fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.00.
