Te Akau Trans Tasman Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has one horse entered on Wednesday 26 March at Hawera, New Zealand and one at Sandown, Victoria.

Hawera:

Weather: overcast, track: Soft5, rail: out 4 metres. No rain forecast.

4:24 p.m. R6 10 Court Of Appeal (4 m Eminent – Katy O’Beel) – Craig Grylls; she was held up when she clearly had more to offer in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 27 January at Tauranga, and subsequently proved this by racing clear to easily win the Rating 65 1800 metres on 26 February at Taupo. While she steps up in grade for the $25,000 Rating 75 2100 metres, she carries minimum the weight 54kg, is bred for staying distances, and looks more than capable of featuring in the finish from her handy gate (3). rates a top three chance from barrier three. Fixed odds: $3.90 & $1.70.

Sandown, Melbourne:

Weather: overcast, track: Soft5, rail: true. No rain forecast.

7:25 p.m. (NZ) ~ 5:25 p.m. (Vic) R6 1 Stage ‘N’ Screen (3 f Ace High – Inthespotlight) – Logan Bates (a3); she let down nicely from her handy position for a close third when resuming in the Benchmark 64 Fillies & Mares 1200 metres on 7 March at Moonee Valley, and contests the A$55,000 Benchmark 64 3YO Fillies 1400 metres. She won with good turn of foot over 1200 metres on debut, before finishing an eye-catching fourth off a wide trip in the Listed Amanda Elliott Stakes over 1400m at Flemington. The apprentice engagement delivers weight relief to 58.5kg, and she looks poised to make an impact at the business end from the decent gate (5).  NZ TAB fixed odds: $3.50 & $1.60.
