Te Akau Trans Tasman Saturday Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Saturday 7 May: Te Rapa, and Gold Coast.

Te Rapa:

Weather: fine, track: Soft5, rail: out 7 metres. No rain forecast.

2:43 p.m. R5 2 Lord Cosmos (2 g Pierro - Cosmic Powers) - Sam Weatherley; powered home stylishly to win a Maiden 2YO 1100 metres in December at New Plymouth, following a debut second, and spelled after the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) won by stable-mate Dynastic (Almanzor). He resumed running the fastest last 600m (34.2) to race rival Charmario (Charm Spirit) here last Saturday and rates a top three prospect in the $60,000 Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre 2YO Stakes (Listed, 1200m). Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.30.

3:53 p.m. R7 1 Supreme Khan (4 g Mongolian Khan - Angelica Hall) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); was tightened late when mounting his run in a Rating 74 1200 metres on 2 April at Awapuni, and was a close up fifth in Rating 74 1400 metres a fortnight ago at Pukekohe. A course/distance winner last May at his only attempt, he does have a solid record, but requires luck from the tricky draw (11) to feature in the top three. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.40.

Gold Coast:

Weather: overcast, track: Soft6, rail: true. 14mls rain forecast Saturday.

2:33 p.m. (NZ time) R3 10 Soprano Supreme (4 m Contributer - Falsetto) - Kerrin McEvoy; impressed winning a Rating 65 1950 metres on 3 March and effortlessly won a Rating 74 2200 metres on 9 April, both at Rotorua. Coming of age, winning three of her last four, she faces a tougher assignment in the $125,000 Gold Coast Cup (2400m) but drops in weight (54kg) and is going well. Fixed odds NZ TAB: $6.50 & $2.30.

4:53 p.m. (NZ time) R7 4 Sword of State (3 c Snitzel - In the Vanguard) - Opie Bosson; ended his two-year-old campaign racing clear to win the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) in March at Ellerslie, and was named Champion Two-Year-Old.  He resumed in NZ winning the Almanzor Trophy (Gr. 3, 1200m) with a powerhouse finish on 22 January at Ellerslie. He showed tenacity winning the King's Plate (Gr. 3, 1200m) on Derby Day (5 March) at Ellerslie, and drew out late winning a trial on 20 April at Matamata. Ideally drawn (4) in Brandons Gold Coast Guineas (Gr. 3, 1200m) and second favourite, he needs a good track to show his ability. Fixed odds NZ TAB: $4.50 & $1.90.
