Te Akau Trans Tasman Saturday Preview

Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Saturday 5 October at Tauranga, and one horse at Flemington, Melbourne.

Tauranga:

Weather: fine, track: Heavy10, rail: out 9 metres. 6mls rain forecast Saturday.

12:10 p.m. R1 2 Dare To Proisir (2 g Proisir – Hayle Bay) – Opie Bosson; he stretched out well in a close finish to snare the win when trialling on 19 September at Rotorua, and debuts in the $25,000 Maiden 2YO 950 metres. While he won that trial on Heavy10 footing, his family preference appears to be for better ground, and much will depend on how he handles the going under race conditions. Fixed odds: $2.15 win dividend only.

12:43 p.m. R2 6 Charmrose (4 m Charm Spirit – Sovereign Rose) – Vinnie Colgan; she sustained a big run for second after being posted wide in the Maiden 1200 metres on 13 September at Matamata, also with Colgan aboard, and contests the $25,000 Maiden 1400 metres. A mare who has required, and been given, time due to her temperament, she quickened to win a trial on a Heavy10 itrack n August before racing, and she positions as a top three prospect from her handy barrier two. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.70.

1:50 p.m. R4 11 Mazzucato (4 m Tivaci – Yellen) – Jess Allen (a2); she resumed with comprehensive victory in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 13 September at Matamata, and steps up in grade for the $40,000 Rating 75 1300 metres. She ended her previous campaign with solid efforts in stakes’ races, has been a winner on Heavy10 over 1400 metres, and  with the 2kgs apprentice allowance, she is presented with the opportunity to measure up in strong field. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.25.

Flemington:

Weather: raining, track: Good4, rail: out 9 metres. Showers forecast on Friday and 9mls rain forecast Saturday.

4:30 p.m. (NZ) ~ 1:30 p.m. (Vic) R3 7 Truth Or Dare (3 g Vanbrugh – Thetruthisoutthere) – Michael Dee; he resumed with a notable performance for third in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 24 August at Te Rapa, before transferring to Te Akau’s Cranbourne stable for an Australian campaign, potentially targeting the Group 1 Victoria Derby on 2 November. On debut in Australia, he kept stretching out to win the Maiden 1600 metres on 19 September at Cranbourne, also with Dee aboard. He won three of four trials before racing, is destined to get over more ground, and has his chance to take one more step towards the Derby when contesting the A$175,000 Listed ABC Buillon Super Impose Stakes over 1800m, squaring off against his fellow three year olds.  NZ TAB fixed odds: $9.00 & $2.70.
