Te Akau Trans Tasman Saturday Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Saturday 14 June at Te Rapa, New Zealand, and one at Bendigo, Victoria.

Te Rapa:

Weather: showery, track: Heavy10, rail: true. Showers forecast.

11:14 a.m. R1 11 Hayate (6 m Maurice – Vamoose) – Jay Kozaczek (a1); she won a hurdle trial before finishing back in the Rating 69 2000 metres on 4 June at Cambridge (poly-track). She makes her  jumps’ debut in the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (2800m), and is well supported in the market on the basis of her strong trial showing. Fixed odds: $4.40 & $1.70.

4:25 p.m. R10 1 Malborough Bay (5 g Darci Brahma – Spin ‘N Grin) – Tayler Melvin (a4); he was unable to threaten in the Open Handicap 1400 metres on 24 May at New Plymouth, and drops in grade for the $35,000 Rating 75 1400 metres. One of three contesting the event for the stable, he enjoys weight relief to 55kg, and has recorded four wins to 1400 metres,. He is also a course/distance winner who seems to race best on soft ground, but can prove competitive if he handles the prevailing track conditions. Fixed odds: $21.00 & $6.00.

4:25 p.m. R10 4 Sense of Timing (4 m Time Test – Pin Up Lae) – Michael McNab; she burst clear to impressively win the Rating 65 1500 metres here on 24 May (main picture), and also contests the Rating 75 1400 metres. She did very well for second the start prior on Heavy10 in a Rating 65 1400 metres on 10 May at Rotorua, has been stakes’ placed three times, and deserves respect as a top three chance. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.80.

4:25 p.m. R10 7 Kabugee (5 g Satono Aladdin – Kabuki) – Vinnie Colgan; he has been given time (49 days) since lining up in the Rating 75 1600 metres on 26 April at Riccarton, and likewise contests the Rating 75 1400 metres. With five wins to 1400 metres, including on soft and heavy going, he has raced well in a fresh state previously. Fixed odds: $21.00 & $6.00.

Bendigo:

Weather: showers, track: Soft7, rail: out 9 metres. No rain forecast Saturday.

2:41 p.m. (NZ time) R2 8 Frostration (2 f Frosted – Indiscretion) – Cory Parish; she ran home well from last to finish third in a jump out on 26 May at Cranbourne, and debuts in the A$27,000 2YO 1100 metres. Whilst this is virtually an educational run, it is difficult to assess her chances against a full field of debutantes.
