Te Akau Trans Tasman Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has eight horses racing on Saturday 8 August: Te Rapa, Hawera, and Rosehill Gardens (Sydney).

Te Rapa:

Weather: overcast, track: Slow8, rail: out 7 metres. 8mls rain forecast Friday, showers Saturday.

2.15 p.m. R6 5 Richard of Yorke (9 g Oasis Dream -
Cascata) - Diego Montes de Oca (a1); ran home well for third in the Rating 83 2100 metres on 18
July at Awapuni, with de Oca aboard, and contests the corresponding event for
$30,000. He finished third over 2100 metres at his only course attempt and
rates a top four chance. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.40.

2.15 p.m. R6 12 Bak Da Master (6 g Mastercraftsman - Bak Da Princess) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); became
the 100th winner for trainer Jamie Richards last season and since
finished third in the Rating 89 High-weight 2060 metres on 24 July at Wanganui.
In good form, but he faces a wide draw (17) in the $30,000 Rating 83 2100
metres. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.80.

2.50 p.m. R7 4 Savy Yong Blonk (5 m Savabeel - Ampin)
- Danielle Johnson; blitzed her rivals in the Royal Descent Stakes (Fillies
& Mares, 1600m) on Auckland Cup Day (Mar. 3) at Ellerslie, following a
terrific second in the City of Auckland Cup (Gr. 3, 2400m). She trialled
ominously for third here on 28 July and cannot be underestimated, despite
drawing wide (14), in the $30,000 Rating 98 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $14.00
& $4.20.

2.50 p.m. R7 14 Romantic Lady (4 m Power - Romantic
Time) - Chelsea Burdan
(a2); went forward to a commanding lead and never flinched when winning
a trial here on 28 July, with Burdan aboard. She completed a hat-trick of wins
in December at Matamata, never further back than fourth in six starts, and
should go well from barrier three in the $30,000 Rating 98 1200 metres. Fixed
odds: $7.00 & $2.50.

3.25 p.m. R8 7 Luminous (5 m Reliable Man - Keenly) - Diego Montes de Oca (a1); a white mare, she was a stakes placed Maiden (Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m)) during three starts in her first campaign, before winning last spring and produced a super victory in Rating 72 1400 metres on 14 March at Tauranga. She found the line encouragingly over a sprint trip when trialling here on 28 July, in a heat won by Romantic Lady (above), and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 87 1400 metres. Look for her finding the line. Fixed odds: $21.00 & $5.25.

Hawera:

Weather: fine, track: Dead6, rail: out 2 metres home straight, remainder true. 8mls rain forecast Friday night/Saturday.

1.23 p.m. R6 4 Remington (6 g Darci Brahma - Kudamm) -
Joe Kamaruddin (a4); kept up a strong gallop for second when trialling on 28
July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 87 1300 metres. Weight
relief to 54kgs, he has the ability to race well with luck from a wide draw
(16). Fixed odds: $18.00 & $5.25.

5.00 p.m. R12 3 Al Haram (8 g Sea the Stars - En Public) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); provided the jockey with his first win on 25 July at Avondale, in the Rating 83 2100 metres, and contests the $30,000 Rating 91 2100 metres. Up in grade but down in weight (54kgs), he has the talent to prove competitive. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.50.

Rosehill:

Weather: overcast, track: Soft7, rail: true. 10mls rain forecast Friday.

5.35 p.m. (NZ time) R7 4 Melody Belle (6 m Commands - Meleka
Belle) - Kerrin McEvoy; freshened in April after finishing sixth in the $2m
Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m) at Randwick. She looked good winning an
850-metre trial on 31 July at Randwick, given Heavy9 footing, and resumes in
the $200,000 Iron Jack Missile Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m). The reigning NZ Horse of
the Year, winner of 10 Group 1 races, she is a tiger that handles rain-affected
going. NZ TAB fixed odds: $3.50 & $1.55.
