Te Akau Trans Tasman Sunday Preview

Te Akau Racing has one horse entered on Sunday 27 July at Te Aroha, New Zealand and one horse entered at Casterton, Victoria.

Te Aroha:

Weather: showery, track: Heavy10, rail: out 9 metres. Showers forecast.

10:45 a.m. R1 3 Fierce Flight (6 g Flying Artie – First Bloom) – Jay Kozaczek (a1); he improved from last and sustained a big run for second when making his jumps’ debut in the Maiden Hurdle (2800m) on 5 July at Te Rapa, also with Kozaczek aboard. Contesting the $20,000 Maiden Hurdle (3100m).  He is a stakes’ winner who has twice been Group Three placed, has recorded six career wins to 2200 metres, and while new at this craft, he rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $3.90 & $1.70.

Casterton:

Weather: showers, track: Soft6, rail: true. 2mls rain forecast Saturday and 7mls Sunday.

4:53 (NZ) ~ 2:53 p.m. (Vic) R4 1 The Mighty Spar (7 g Savabeel – O’Dianne) – Steven Pateman; he remained unbeaten in three course attempts when defending the AC Miller Steeplechase (3800m) here on 29 June, also with Pateman aboard, and contests the A$60,000 Moredun Hill Steeplechase (3800m). He appeared in fine fettle when winning a jump out on 21 July at Cranbourne, again carries top weight (75kg) but brings great form to the race and warrants his warm favouritism.
