Te Akau Trans Tasman Sunday Preview

Te Akau Racing has 11 horses entered on Sunday 10 December: Rotorua, and Werribee (Victoria).

Rotorua:

Weather: cloudy, track: Heavy8, rail: out 5 metres. Showers forecast.

2:26 p.m. R1 8 War Of Succession (3 g Tavistock – Ziffel) – Opie Bosson; he kept lifting with a notable effort for third in the Maiden 1600 metres on 18 October at Tauranga, and worked home for third in the Maiden 3YO 1600 metres on 11 November at Te Rapa. He appears suited to stepping up in the $25,000 Maiden 1950 metres and rates a top three prospect but will need luck from his wide draw (11). Fixed odds: $2.10 & $1.30.

3:00 p.m. R2 5 Sense of Timing (3 f Time Test – Pin Up Lae) – Craig Grylls; she ran home strongly for a close second in a trial on 22 November at Taupo, and resumes in the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1230 metres. She beat subsequent O’Leary’s Fillies Stakes (Listed, 1340m) winner Glamour Tycoon (Written Tycoon) when trialling here on Heavy9 as two-year-old, and rates a top three chance from barrier one - one of two in the event for the stable. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.30.

3:00 p.m. R2 12 Rue de Rivoli (3 f Tivaci – Boulevard) – Opie Bosson; she quickened well under a hand ride for second in a trial on 22 November at Taupo, and also resumes in the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1230 metres. She finished strongly to win her first trial here on Heavy9 going and looks a first four proposition from barrier five. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.80.

3:36 p.m. R3 13 Autocracy (3 g Savabeel – Bingo) – Warren Kennedy; he ran home strongly down the outside for a close third in a trial on 22 November at Taupo, and debuts in the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1230 metres. From a terrific family, he shapes to race well first-up if appreciative of the track conditions. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.70.

4:46 p.m. R5 4 Spellcraft (4 g Savabeel – Bewitching) – Opie Bosson; he found line for sixth in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 11 November at Te Rapa, and drops in grade for the $25,000 Rating 60 1400 metres. He placed at his only course attempt, however was a winner on good ground so he is another that will need to appreciate the prevailing conditions - one of two entered for the team. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $2.00.

4:46 p.m. R5 10 Invincibeel (5 m Savabeel – Matakana) – Craig Grylls; she was posted wide near the pace and kept finding for sixth in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 24 November at New Plymouth. She drops in grade for the $25,000 Rating 60 1400 metres, and has ability to match rivals, but she is another of the team with a question mark as to whether she will handle the ground. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.40.

5:49 p.m. R7 10 Matakana Girl (3 f Ace High – Bankside Belle) – Opie Bosson; she chased home well for fourth when debuting in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 9 November at Taupo, and contests the $25,000 Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1400 metres (eligible $20,000 bonus). When trained by Mark Walker, her dam Bankside Belle won eight races to 1200 metres, including a debut win at Rotorua, and was twice stakes' placed. Suited stepping in distance, she has definite first four claims. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.30.

6:54 p.m. R9 4 Aequus (4 m Iffraaj – Equanimity) – Craig Grylls; she produced a notable third off an economical trip when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 4 November at Tauranga, and contests the $25,000 Rating 65 1230 metres. A capable mare, she is lightly raced, was second-up winner last season, and rates a top four chance with luck from the wide draw (10) - the first of a stable trio entered in the race. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.80.

6:54 p.m. R9 5 Caravella (4 m Caravaggio – Highland Lights) – Opie Bosson; she had no trouble getting away to win comfortably when resuming in the Rating 60 1200 metres on 9 November at Taupo, also with Bosson aboard, and likewise contests the $25,000 Rating 65 1230 metres. She ran a solid race for fourth at only course attempt, and rates a top four chance if things go her way from barrier nine. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.

6:54 p.m. R9 8 Francee (4 m Iffraaj – Calveen) – Vinnie Colgan; she found the line strongly for fourth when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 11 November at Te Rapa, also with Colgan aboard, and is the third of the trio contesting the $25,000 Rating 65 1230 metres. She built to a nice win over 1400 metres in May at Matamata, has shown she can handle give in the ground, but once again is another stable runner that has been dealt a poor draw (13). Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.80.

Werribee:
