Te Akau Trans Tasman Sunday Preview
16 March, 2025
Te Akau Racing has one horse entered on Sunday 16 March at Wingatui, New Zealand, and two horses at Yarra Valley, Victoria.
Wingatui:
Weather: fine, track: Heavy8, rail: out 3 metres 900m – 350m, remainder true, cutaway rail in straight. No rain forecast.
12:47 p.m. R1 3 Bello Mio (5 g Deep Field – Bella Francesca) – Kylie Williams; he finished strongly from back in the field for third on Heavy8 footing when resuming in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 23 February at Ashburton, also with Williams aboard, and contests the $18,500 Rating 75 1200 metres. A winner on soft and heavy going, he is up to a top three finish from his handy barrier three. Fixed odds: $3.10 & $1.35.
Yarra Valley:
Weather: showers, track: Good4, rail: true. 12mls rain forecast Sunday.
5.45 p.m. (NZ) ~ 3:45 p.m. (Vic) R6 4 West Indies (3 g Fastnet Rock – Anchovy, by Galileo) – Sage Duric (a3); he looked good winning a trial on 24 February and also a jump out on 10 March, both with the stable apprentice Sage Duric aboard, at Cranbourne. Resuming in the A$35,000 Benchmark 64 1950 metres, the apprentice engagement brings weight relief to 57kg, he was a winner over 1400 metres and has also notched up two fourths from four starts. He spelled after the Group 1 Victoria Derby, and appears in the right fettle to produce a bold run fresh-up. NZ TAB fixed odds: $6.00 & $1.95.
6:25 p.m. (NZ) ~ 4:25 p.m. (Vic) R7 7 Savoir Faire (5 g Savabeel – Etiquette) – Daniel Moor; he has been given time (29 days) since finishing back when resuming in the Benchmark 84 1600 metres on 15 February at Flemington, and contests the A$125,000 Yarra Valley Cup (1950m). Three of his four wins have come over 2000 metres, he drops considerably in weight here to carry 54kg, and opportunity for return to form - the sting out of the track will also suit. NZ TAB Fixed odds: $16.00 & $4.20.
