Te Akau Trentham Preview
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses racing at the Marton Jockey Club meeting on Saturday 7 January at Trentham.

As on Friday 6 January the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true. 1ml rain forecast overnight.

12.50 p.m. R1 3 Smashing (5 m Pins - Ruud Van Slaats) - Cameron Lammas; produced a solid third when resuming here off 259 days in the $30,000 Rating 85 1000 metres on 3 December and steps up to 1200 metres in the same grade. Drawn the ace, she has a very good course record (4-1-2), including a third in the Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1200m), and with natural improvement looks hard to beat. Fixed odds: $2.70 & $1.10.

4.21 p.m. R7 7 Echezeaux (5 m Encosta De Lago - Grand Echezeaux) - Alysha Collett; recorded a terrific fresh-up win over a mile at Avondale, before coming out on top in a tight finish to the $30,000 Rating 75 1600 metres here on 3 December, and steps up in grade and distance for the $55,000 Marton Cup (Listed, 2200m). Already a winner over 2100 metres, she carries minimum weight (53kgs) and this seems a perfect opportunity to register in a stakes race. Fixed odds: $5.20 & $1.85.
