Te Akau Trentham Sunday Preview

Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Sunday 14 December at Trentham.

Trentham:

Weather: fine, track: Soft5, rail: out 6 metres. No rain forecast.

1:44 p.m. R2 9 Paper Moon (3 f Savabeel – Kansas) – Craig Grylls; she trailed in fourth spot from barrier one, quickened near the markers to level at the 250m, and drew out for a smart win in a trial on 14 November at Avondale. Resuming in the $25,000 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres, she struck a heavy track on debut as two-year-old, and has been a filly who has appreciated time and patient handling.  This appears to have paid dividends as she looked good winning her recent trial and shapes to race well if the country's leading rider can negate the tricky barrier (8).  Fixed odds: $4.60 & $1.70.

4:39 p.m. R7 6 Trobriand (5 g Kermadec – Arboreal) – Craig Grylls; he travelled handily, put a break on the field and looked home before being claimed late in the Listed Stewards Stakes over 1200m on 15 November at Riccarton. Given time (29 days) to come through that, he is one of two stablemates contesting the $50,000 Open Handicap 1200 metres - he brings the right form and has the ability to prove competitive with decent trip from barrier eight. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.50.

4:39 p.m. R7 11 Insatiable (6 g All Too Hard – All Day Baby) – Joe Doyle; the second runner in the $50,000 1200m event, he tracked up nicely in midfield and finished strongly for third in the same Listed Stewards Stakes on 15 November at Riccarton, and also with Doyle aboard. Like his stablemate Trobriand, he has been given time (29 days) to come through that tough effort, has placed in two of four starts on this course, and is ideally drawn (1) to prove competitive. Fixed odds: $10.00 & $2.90.
