Te Akau Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Thursday May 21 at Cambridge.  The footing was rated Heavy10, with the rail out three metres.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (½ a length, head 48.4)

Linchpin (2 g Pins - Laurinal Princess) - Cameron Lammas; was handily placed on the inner from barrier two, moved one off on the turn at the 400m and without a lot of room finished within two lengths of the winner in sixth.

Heat 11 2YO 800 metres (¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 48.9)

2 g Castledale - Hot ‘n' Moss - Cameron Lammas; jumped well before camping in fifth, he worked into it nicely at the 400m and with genuine endeavour kept up a solid gallop under a hand ride for a close third.

Heat 12 2YO 800 metres (¾ lengths, neck 48.9)

Just Call Me Riley (2 g O'Reilly - Suream) - Cameron Lammas; was a stride tardy to begin before working into midfield, sixth, and tracked up behind a line of horses in the straight to finish close up in sixth.

Heat 16 2YO 950 metres (7 ½ lengths, neck 58.5)

Butch Cassidy (2 g Darci Brahma - Twelve Carat) - Cameron Lammas; travelled along nicely in midfield on the outer, in a heat run at solid pace, and although taken wide in search of better going in the straight he was unable to make progress in the heavy going.

Heat 19 Open 950 metres (neck, neck 59.7)

Star of Greenbeel (4 g Savabeel - Greensleeves) - Cameron Lammas; found a nice position in fourth, only to yield ground in the testing conditions at the 500m and he was held together thereafter to finish mid pack.

Heat 20 Maiden 950 metres (2 lengths, 2 ½ lengths 59.4)

Our Drahma Queen (3 f Darci Brahma - Queen Cha Cha) - Cameron Lammas; got back in the worst of the going from an inside draw and was unable to handle the testing conditions.

Heat 21 Maiden 950 metres (7 lengths, 1 ½ lengths 59.7)

3 f Mastercraftsman - Due Diligence - Cameron Lammas; tracked up a line of horses near the inner and she struggled to handle the going.

Heat 22 Maiden 950 metres (1 length, 4 lengths 1:00.1)

Cathedral Cove (3 g Zabeel - Thistle Cove) - Cameron Lammas; progressed from sixth in running to fourth at the 400m and although labouring in the testing conditions he still produced a solid performance.

Heat 23 Maiden 950 metres (½ a length, neck 1:00.1)

Miss Chief (5 m Keeper - Dainty Lace) - Cameron Lammas; jumped away well wide on the track and travelled on the bridle to the 400m but was found wanting in the testing going thereafter.

Heat 25 Open 1200 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 1:17.5)

King's Rock (4 g Fastnet Rock - Nureyev's Girl) - Ed Zac-Syed; began well to race in a line of four on the pace and just came to the end of it late in the piece over the sprint trip, but will come on nicely for the run.
