Te Akau Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday March 25 at Cambridge.
The footing was rated Dead4, with the rail out six metres.

Heat 3 2YO 650 metres (1 ¾ lengths, 3 lengths 40.3)
2 g Keeper - Romanee St. Vivant - Alex Forbes - below; eased for cover from the outside barrier, he got back in running and worked home in staying fashion over the sprint trip.

Heat 4 2YO 800 metres (short neck, 3 ½ lengths 47.1)
Appellation (2 g Pentire - Tattinger) - Daniel Johnson - below; settled fifth on the inner, improved near the rail around the home turn and once across heels into the clear at the 200 metres he quickened up nicely for second.

Virtuous (2 f Encosta De Lago - Virtus) - Kelly Myers; got back in running to settle sixth and after circling wide she ran on strongly for fourth.

Heat 5 2YO 800 metres (2 ¾ lengths, 1 ¾ lengths 46.9)
Astrid (2 f Pins - Astralita) - Kelly Myers - below; was off the bit early on over the sprint distance and settled fifth. She tracked up behind runners into the straight, was drawn across heels to see daylight at the 200 metres and made good ground late for fourth.

Zarules (2 c Zabeel - Gwen's Rules) - Alex Forbes - below; was slowly away and became detached over the short trip, before working home near the rail.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (9 lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 46.2)
2 g Shinko King - Red Carrera - Rory Hutchings; settled last, to be standing the tearaway leader ten lengths approaching the home turn at the 400 metres and he quickened up appreciably along the rail into second.
Auriol (2 f Flying Spur - America's Idol) - Alex Forbes;  eased for cover from the outside gate and forced to circle wide around the home turn, she worked home nicely amongst runners.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (3 lengths, short neck 47.7)
Bon Marche (2 g Nom Du Jeu - Las Vegas Lass) - Kelly Myers - below; worked into a nice spot fourth on the inner, made his run centre track on straightening and when asked to extend he rounded off solidly for second.

Heat 8 2YO 800 metres (long neck, 1 length 47.4)
Brochaine (2 g Pins - Lowland) - Brendan Hutton; jumped well from barrier one to receive a nice trail. He took a gap against the rail on straightening and quickened up nicely to finish third.

2 f Postponed - Promissory - Danielle Johnson; was slowly away and then lost momentum easing off heels to become detached, but recovered well to make good ground in the run home.

Heat 9 2YO 800 metres (1 ¾ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 47.6)
Duran (2 g Darci Brahma - Breezed) - Kelly Myers - below; began well to camp on the leaders, quickened into a gap two off the rail on straightening and displayed a good action running home strongly for second.

Heat 10 2YO 800 metres (¾ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 47.7)
Frock (2 f Road to Rock - Mya) - Kelly Myers -below; passed the 400 metres fifth on the inner, angled clear on straightening and ran home strongly for fourth.

2 c Keeper - La Tebaldi - Alex Forbes - below; got back in the field from a wide draw, circled wide and worked home in staying fashion over the sprint trip.

Heat 12 Maiden 800 metres (2 lengths, ¾ lengths 48.5)
Flying Therese (3 f Flying Spur - St. Therese) - Danielle Johnson; steadied to trail after beginning swiftly and held her position while running home solidly in the straight.

Heat 18 2YO 950 metres (1 ½ lengths, 1 ¾ lengths 1:00.4)
Infatuated (2 f Saperavi - Zorina) - Danielle Johnson - below; began well to settle kindly alongside the leader and under minimal urging ran home strongly for second.

Heat 21 Open 950 metres (2 ½ lengths, ½ a head 58.5)
Milan Miss (4 m Darci Brahma - Falaniella) - Anna Jones - below; was caught a little bit wide in midfield, ranged wide around the home turn and after working home nicely to finish close up she kept on running past the line in good staying fashion.

Heat 22 Open 950 metres (1 ½ lengths, ½ a length 56.6)
Quintette (3 f Alamosa - Everswindell) - Alex Forbes - below; jumped well before taking herself onto lead at the 600 metres and held together in the straight she finished off nicely for third under her own steam.

Heat 28 Open 1200 metres (3 lengths, 1 length 1:13.20)
Sovereign Rose (6 m Pins - Pavan) - Daniel Miller - below; settled well back, second last, started to improve on the inside of horses approaching the home turn and once across heels into the clear at the 200 metres she finished off with plenty of purpose for third.

Heat 29 Open 1200 metres (1 ¾ lengths, ½ a length 1:12.70)
Abidewithme (4 m Redoute's Choice - Crimson) - Leith Innes; settling a distant fifth in a heat run at race day tempo, she improved to fourth at the 400 metres and under minimal urging got into her work over the final 100m to finish just behind the winner in fourth.

Sunset Pass (5 g Yamanin Vital - Janet's Chance) - Daniel Miller; settled well off the pace over the sprint trip and kept working home nicely in a staying manner, as expected.

Heat 30 Open 1200 metres (¾ lengths, 3 ¾ lengths 1:13.3)
Thy (5 m O'Reilly - Star Affair) - Rory Hutchings - below; tailed a small and compact field, before working into the heat strongly on the bridle rounding the home turn and let down stylishly under minimal urging to finish second.

Orinto (4 m Iffraaj - The Perfume Garden) - Alex Forbes - below; travelled quite keenly alongside the leader and after ranging to challenge on straightening she worked home well for a competitive fourth.
