Te Akau track work highlights - Tuesday 23 February -

Course proper (Dead):

Heroic Valour (McNab) and Sassy ‘N' Smart (Cameron) went 1000m against the rail in 1:01.7, last 600m in 34.4, going well. They are racing this Saturday during Breeders' Stakes Day at Matamata. Both unbeaten, Sassy ‘N' Smart (Smart Missile) races in the $100,000 Matamata Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock) in the $50,000 Matamata Slipper (Listed, 1200m).

Plough:

Also preparing to race on Saturday at Matamata Arpeggio (McNab) and Flaming (Cameron) ran 1200m in 1:17.6, last 600m in 35.7, both going well. Arpeggio (Tavistock) contests the $30,000 Rating 85 1600 metres and Flaming (Bachelor Duke) the $25,000 Rating 75 1400 metres.

Heading south on Saturday to Otaki Bordeaux (Cameron) worked over ground with a mate. They ran the 1200m in 1:16.8, last 600m in 36.4. Bordeaux (High Chaparral) produced very pleasing work.

Plough, three-quarter pace:

Love Triangle (K. Jones) went 800m in 60, last 600m in 44. Cathedral Cove (McNab) went 1200m, running the 1000m in 1:09, last 600m in 44, ahead of making his debut in the Maiden 1900 metres on Thursday at Wairoa. Debuting at the same meeting over 1200 metres, Linchpin (Cameron) went 1000m in 1:08.

Preparing to take on the Aussies in the $750,000 Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) on March 5 at Flemington, dual Group One winner Xtravagant (Miller) followed a swim and trot with two rounds of pace work. Daniel Miller reported the three-year-old son of Pentire felt superb.
