Te Akau Tuesday Update

I am still buzzing over Darci Brahma getting yet another Group One winner on Saturday. Even better, an Australian Group 1! The connections of Gust of Wind are now looking towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups with her.

This year we purchased eight yearlings by Darci Brahma and what unbelievable value they were. It doesn't matter what distance 800m, 1000m, 1200m, 1400m, 1600m, 2000m, 2400m - the Darci's keep winning. They have great temperaments, the trainers love them and Darci is standing this season for what I think is unbelievable value for money.

We now have had 30mls of rain in the last 24 hours and it is amazing how the farm has greened up already and the grass is bolting away. Tomorrow morning at about 7.00am the yearlings from the Sydney Sale arrive home and we will start breaking them in straight away. While the rain has been welcome on the farm, it is very frustrating for the Te Akau team at Matamata. We are scratching half of the horses in Rotarua tomorrow and most are going to Hawkes Bay on Saturday in search for better ground.
