You have never seen the farmer from Te Akau so happy! Since last Friday morning we have had 65mls of rain and it's still raining but is also quite muggy. Yes, all this rain at this time of the year is seriously good for the farm. It's great to see all the stock on such lush feed. It's also a wonderful sight going around the farm seeing beautiful green grass everywhere and the horses are simply loving it!
Gee it has been a busy month! Today we have six separate groups of owners coming to the farm to inspect their new horses. Karyn and I have never seen shares sell so quickly and we now wish we had bought more horses!! Now I never thought I would say that!!
But one thing happens every year - as I drive around the farm I see a nice horse or two or three and I say to myself how on earth has this good horse not yet been completely sold?
One example of this is our Deep Field colt - Lot 114 and he is out of the Lonhro mare Claudine. Now this IS a colt for the Karaka Million, yes if ever I have seen a colt that could win the Karaka Million, it is this boy. He is a striking individual and was super buying. This colt is one of the best movers on the farm - he is all class.
I wonder sometimes whether it is the new season sire factor - but let me tell you that Deep Field is one of the most exciting new stallions around. An Australian Group winner himself, he is a full brother to Group 1 Caulfield Guineas' winner Shooting to Win and of course Deep Field is also out of a stakes' winning mare too.

On our website, click on the "Yearlings and Shares" page and scroll down to Lot 114 and click on his photo and all the details are there including his pedigree - he comes from a very well-performed family his close relatives have been Group winners in Australia, France, Japan and Hong Kong - it's a truly international pedigree, full of high level success.
A 10% share in this colt is just $10,300 +GST (including sales' expenses at cost and full veterinary and xray inspections) - a 5% share is just $5,150 + GST and who knows - this might be a life changing experience for you.
This Saturday we will have horses racing in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland. Embellish, our Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas' winner, and close runner-up in the Karaka 3YO Million, travelled well to Melbourne on Sunday in the very capable care of Dan Miller. Melody Belle's flight was delayed but she also is now safely in Sydney with another of our senior team Kerry Jones. Stephen Autridge will head to Melbourne and Jamie Richards to Sydney so I will be at Ellerslie to help saddle up our two runners in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas, Mongolianconqueror and Griffin. I thought Mongolianconqueror's run in the Group 2 Waikato Guineas was the run of the race, especially from an awkward draw, and Griffin didn't have the best of luck.
Mongolianconqueror is a horse that I purchased for $130,000 from the Ready to Run Sale 15 months ago. Griffin is a horse that we actually bought from Gavelhouse for $90,000 and he is a full brother to Gingernuts.
Speaking of Gingernuts - he is enjoying his life back home - I can see him from my office each day and he looks in great fettle. The main picture is of the daughter of one of our team and she calls herself Jerry's biggest fan - she might have some competition on that one we think! He's very popular - we even have a bar in New South Wales where the patrons have been following Jerry's journey and now have a framed picture of him up behind the bar! There is just so much love for this kind horse.
