Te Akau Tuesday Update
11 December, 2018

We have a full-on day today as we begin our yearling inspections, starting with Hallmark Stud and Haunui Farm in Karaka.
This is all organised by Danny Rolston of New Zealand Bloodstock. Of all the Bloodstock companies I deal with, Danny is in a league of his own. He is a very well organised person, a great judge of the thoroughbred horse and men of his quality are hard to find.
Another great judge I am working alongside is Joe Walls, the Chairman of New Zealand Bloodstock.
Tomorrow we are viewing the yearlings with Dylan Ralph and then onto Westbury Stud. I am really looking forward to it.
It was such a huge thrill on Saturday to win a Group 2 race with a horse at it's first start - Jamie Richards can really train these Savabeels.
Aotea Lad was the 12th Group/Listed win Te Akau has had in the last two years with Savabeels, including three Group 1's, four Group 2's, three Group 3's and two Listed wins. Now that is a proud achievement. Well done to all our staff who have worked with Aotea Lad, it has been a huge team effort.
Jamie had a fantastic week of racing, with a winner on nearly every day of the week last week. He has had 45 wins just this season, with a strike rate of 4.5 - now that is hard to beat. What is even more amazing is that 50% of all his runners this season have paid a dividend. What a great team effort.
Premierships are based on performances during each racing season (August 1st - July 31st). The jockey and trainer with the most wins at the end of the season are the Premiership winners. These statistics are updated daily - source NZTR 1.12.18.

Isn't it also fantastic to see our stable jockey Opie Bosson riding so well? On Saturday at Trentham - Opie won a Group 1, a Group 2 and to finish it off, he won the last race. Three wins from only five rides - I know I've said it before, but that is another achievement that is hard to beat!
It is another busy week here at the farm, as we are spending a lot of time handling the mares and foals. Every day between now and Christmas, we will also be sending 35 fat cattle off to the works, and a further 500 to 600 prime lambs will follow.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Te Rapa this Saturday for a great day of racing - Waikato Cup Day. Thank you too to everyone for your very kind wishes on my birthday on Sunday - we had a lovely family lunch in Auckland with all of our children and their partners except Lydia and her fiance Jamie of course who live in London.
