Te Akau Tuesday Update

What an amazing weekend we had on the farm with our family wedding of our daughter Julia-Rose and Hamish Hayes.

I can't believe the effort that everyone went to, to make sure it was such a happy day. Julia-Rose did all of the planning herself as she has a lot of event management experience and it was a real credit to her. We were so incredibly lucky with the weather - it was just a beautiful afternoon.

The next day (Saturday) we had a few friends out to Raglan for a nice lunch to conclude the celebrations. Here are some photos from the happy occasion that we would like to share with you.

In racing news, Mark Walker started the weekend off in winning style with Axel winning his first race. I bought this Darci Brahma gelding from the Ready to Run Sale for just $55,000 and he is raced by long-time stable clients and friends Gavin and Shane Wealleans and their friends. In his 10 starts in Singapore, he has now won almost $90,000.

In New Zealand, Equinox started Saturday in fine style, and he certainly looks like an exciting colt for the future. He really needs a firm track to show his best form. If I have ever seen a Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas colt, it's him.

Most of our horses raced well over the weekend, however without a lot of luck. I thought Probabeel ran a terrific race in Sydney on a Heavy10 track that was not to her liking, and she must be a great chance in the Group 1 Sires' Produce at Randwick on Derby Day - weather permitting!!

Two more of our horses have made their way across 'the ditch', with Group 1 NZ Derby runner-up In a Twinkling and Champion 2YO Avantage departing for Sydney late yesterday.

In a Twinkling will run in the Tulloch Stakes at Randwick in ten days' time, and, all going well, will back up in the Derby, while Avantage looks all set to race this Saturday.

At Randwick on Derby Day, we could well have three runners - Avantage, Probabeel and In a Twinkling. Our stable jockey, Opie Bosson, certainly has several nice horses to ride over the next few weeks both in Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, here at Te Akau Stud, we are all very busy breaking in a number of our young horses, with more to commence shortly. It is just so exciting seeing these beautiful yearlings work around the farm.

One colt that has really taken my eye is Lot 649 - a Savabeel colt out of Cool ‘n' Sassy. Take a look at this beauty on our "Yearlings & Shares" page on our website. A good, deep dark brown colt with great balance - his riders say he is a beautiful moving colt and just all class.

There are only three shares now available in this colt. If you want to win a Guineas and a Derby, I would suggest you contact me sooner rather than later. I know you will really enjoy being involved in a colt of his class.
