Te Akau Tuesday Update

Today Karyn, Julia-Rose and I are at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

I am pleased I purchased many of our 2019 yearlings at Karaka as the prices here are just so high for the quality yearlings I like to buy. This shows what outstanding value we got at Karaka for our owners.

What a weekend we had in Singapore - our Kranji-based trainer Mark Walker was on fire winning five races over the Friday/Sunday meetings, with a winning double on Friday night and a treble on Sunday afternoon.

That is an incredible achievement and Mark is now four wins in front on the Trainers' Premiership. Well done to Mark, Gus and Karen and the team. Also congratulations to all our successful owners including those of Barbeque - what a performance he put up.

Karyn syndicated Barbeque as a Singapore Derby prospect, so to win his first start over 1200m was indeed some effort. Mark has been telling me for some time now how good he thinks this horse is and as usual, his judgment was 100% correct.

We are so lucky to have Gus and Karen Clutterbuck as a key part of the Te Akau Singapore team! They are both champions and outstanding horsepeople and really do so much to support Mark and the whole Te Akau Singapore operation.

We were delighted to hear today that our Champion 2YO and trans-Tasman Group winning filly Avantage has secured a good draw for her tilt at the A$1 million Group 2 Arrowfield Stakes on Saturday at Royal Randwick - especially after the horror draws we have had in Sydney so far.

From wide draws both In A Twinkling (Derby) and Probabeel (Sires) went super races (and on a track not to their liking) to both finish fifth.

Don't forget Avantage was one of the very last horses we sold shares in that year so don't be put off by the fact that there are still shares available in a handful of our beautiful yearlings - they are crackers and all very promising!
