TE AKAU TV - 2000 Guineas' Weekend!
Date: 4 Nov 2022
Can Te Akau add another 2000 Guineas to the Tangerine resumé?
It's Te Akau TV time! In this live episode from Christchurch we catch-up with Mark Walker live from the Te Akau South Island owners' event in Christchurch on the eve of Cup Week.
The crowds are back at Riccarton this weekend as a huge week of racing gets underway. We expect there to be plenty of fireworks as our team attempts to make its mark on an important and historic day in the New Zealand racing calendar. We have three runners lining up in the Group 1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai 50th New Zealand 2000 Guineas. Dynastic, Cognito and Marlborough Bay will each attempt to add a Group One to their resume in what shapes to be an exciting race.
Te Akau has won seven Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas' titles. Last season Noverre (Savabeel), now standing at Waikato Stud, stormed home for a dominant win. He joined other winners for the stable that have subsequently gone to stud: King's Chapel (King Of Kings), Darci Brahma (Danehill), Rock ‘n' Pop (Fastnet Rock), Xtravagant (Pentire), and Embellish (Savabeel), while gelding Tell A Tale (Tale Of The Cat) was also victorious.
This week, Mark and Hamish assess the team's runners at both Riccarton and Te Rapa before providing their best bets.
We also look at the 48 trialists from Thursday at Matamata including six impressive trial winners.
Finally a big Happy Birthday to Karyn Fenton-Ellis who celebrates her birthday on Sunday. Karyn plays a massive role behind the scenes at Te Akau and we wish her all the best on her special day.
