Te Akau TV - Double G1 Weekend Preview + Spotlight On Our Yearlings

Welcome to another edition of Te Akau TV!

 

This week we are joined by Te Akau trainer Mark Walker as we celebrated his 1000th winner in New Zealand this past week.

 

Mark achieved this record with Jo and Brendan Lindsay's Zourion at Taupo on Tuesday. This victory was supported by 9 other winners since last Friday including stakes' winners in the North and South Islands on Saturday within half an hour of each other: Family Ties winning the Listed Oaks Prelude and Perfect Scenario cruising home in the Group 3 White Robe Lodge Stakes. Our others winners included Puzzle Solved, I Choose You, Family Ties, Brando, Grace ‘N' Grey, Marvelouz and Insatiable.

 

This brings Mark's tally to 119 winners for the season - with 23 of these being Group/Listed victories - a fantastic accomplishment in his first full season back in New Zealand!

 

This week, we cover off our runners at Hastings on Friday and Te Rapa / Riccarton on Saturday. Legends' Day at Te Rapa showcases some of the best talent and fields assembled in New Zealand this season and we can't wait to see how the team performs. Stakes' placed Safura lines up in the Group 2 David and Karyn Ellis Fillies Classic. In the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes we see star three year old Wild Night compete against the older WFA horses over 2000m alongside stablemate, Group 2 winner Campionessa. The Group 1 BCD Sprint shapes up as a mouthwatering contest with last season's Champion 3YO Imperatriz and Champion 2YO Maven Belle lining up against the likes of Levante and La Crique.

 

Mark provides us with his best bet of the weekend before we catch-up with David Ellis CNZM and check out two beautiful colts recently purchased from the NZB Karaka Sale in our “Yearling Spotlight of the Week”. These colts are:
