Te Akau TV - Feeling the heat: Summer Racing is here!

Date: 1 Dec 2023

December 1 heralds the official beginning of Summer, and the thrill of Summer Racing is well and truly in the air!

Welcome to another exciting edition of Te Akau TV, where Hamish connects with Reece Trumper, currently in Australia working alongside Te Akau’s David Ellis CNZM and Marcus Corban. They are diligently inspecting yearlings in the Hunter Valley, as they did this time last year, in anticipation of the upcoming Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast in January.

This has been a very successful sale for Te Akau and has been the source of recent success, with the acquisition of 2YO winners such as Captured By Love and Dream of the Moon – and of course that is where we purchased the world’s most prolific Group 1 winner in 2023 - Imperatriz.

What a week it's been! We proudly notched another Black Type win, bringing our tally to an incredible 12 Group/Listed victories in New Zealand and Australia this season. Classy Campionessa (pictured above) stole the spotlight in the Group 2 Dunstan Horse Feeds Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes— sheer determination in action! Cheers also echoed through Te Aroha as Vivacious was a smart mid-week winner – how good to see Te Aroha back and thriving once again, and we’re thrilled to be racing there.

Looking ahead to the weekend ahead we’ve got your weekend plans covered. Group 1 winner Prise De Fer is gearing up for the Group 3 Eagle Technology Stakes, while Balance of Power is set to contest the Listed Trevor & Corallie Eagle Memorial 3YO at Te Rapa. Plus, Egyptian Queen and My Lips Are Sealed are heading to Wanganui for the Listed O'Leary’s Fillies’ Stakes. We also see some of our 2YO brigade step out with all eyes and focus set on preparing for the Karaka Millions in late January.

Our prowess extends beyond borders! M'sieur Beau Geste competes at Mornington, while it’s Warrnambool Sunday for debut Australian winner Rubicon Crossing and Prismatic, who lines up in the A$300,000 Jericho Cup at Warrnambool. Newest recruit Midnight Blue debuts for the stable in the Traralgon Cup over 1900m, also on Sunday but we are on weather watch. Keep an eye out for talented filly Scottie’s Legacy set to race at Bendigo on Tuesday, while Soprano Supreme is nominated for Lakeside midweek.

Our Ready To Run horses are in high demand, with shares now only available in two promising lads! One is stunning Vanbrugh gelding and the other an Ace High colt out of Miss Thorn, whose family we know well, having trained his dam. One of the unique advantages of investing in Ready To Run horses is the swift turnaround; by purchasing a share in these horses, you can expect them to be up and running in the new year.

Don't miss the opportunity to be involved in these two boys as they are stand-outs on type, strong, athletic individuals and they are due to join our stable teas before Christmas (they are currently lolling around on the green pastures at Te Akau Stud having a post-sale refresh)! We are always available and delighted to answer any questions on our syndication opportunities. Click here to view shares available: https://www.teakauracing.com/yearlings-shares

Mark your calendars for next week - Pukekohe hosts the Group 3 Bonecrusher Stakes, while Trentham showcases the Group 1 TAB Classic and Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes.

Make sure you tune in to Reece’s best of the week - it’s a 2YO that has its eye on the Karaka Million!

Whether you're a seasoned racing aficionado or a casual viewer, this summer promises to be unforgettable for the tangerine! Good luck to all our owners and connections! Go The Tangerine!
