Te Akau TV - G1 Weekend Preview

Date: 27 Sep 2024

We've got another Black Type weekend kicking off for you on Friday night!

Buckle on in as we head into another action-packed week of racing in both New Zealand and Australia. Before we look ahead, let’s take a moment to celebrate some standout performances from last week.

At Cranbourne, recent arrival from NZ Truth or Dare delivered a commanding victory. He was very strong to the line, showing his potential and making the team very proud. During the week in Timaru, the birth place of Phar Lap, talented filly Donna Chiara impressed with a fine win for Wiremu Pinn, continuing her upward trajectory and rewarding Lib Petagna's JML Bloodstock with a well-deserved result.

Now, with another Group 1 Saturday on the horizon, we’re gearing up for a busy schedule across both sides of the Tasman.

It all starts on Friday, where we’ll be at Te Rapa, where several promising horses are set to race before our attention in the evening turns to The Valley where Bellatrix Star takes on the Group 3 Ladbrokes Scarborough Stakes. Drawn 8 of 13, she again has former Te Akau apprentice Michel Dee in the saddle, just like her last start stakes' win at Flemington. She’s coming into the race with that winning form and looks well-placed to shine again.

On Saturday, the spotlight moves to Hastings, where we’ll be knuckling down for some serious top-class action. Unbridled Joy and Captured by Love both bring strong credentials to the Group 2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas' battle.

Skew Wiff then chases down more Group 1 glory, this time in the Arrowfield Stud Plate while Trobriand and Mehzebeen likewise are poised to punch I their respective events. Wild Night makes his long-anticipated return from injury, having last raced on Karaka Million night in January. He’ll be hunting down firmer tracks, and we’re excited to see him back in action.

In the south at Riccarton Park, we’ll also have a strong team lining up as we build towards Cup Week in November - hard to believe it’s just around the corner!

Looking ahead to next week, we’ll be back racing at Matamata and Hawera, while in Melbourne, both Quintessa and Truth Or Dare are Flemington bound.

There’s plenty to look forward to, and we’re eager to see what this week brings on the track. Best of luck to everyone involved this weekend! GO THE TANGERINE!
