Te Akau TV - It's Auckland Cup Day
Date: 10 Mar 2023
We're back with an Auckland Cup Day special edition of Te Akau TV a day racing enthusiast looks forward to, and we are thrilled to be a part of it!
The Te Akau Cyclone Gabrielle Relief initiative has concluded and Te Akau and our wonderful owners and supporters raised as incredible $43,900. Te Akau Racing was proud to match the first $10,000 in donations dollar for dollar. Thank you to everyone who donated for your huge generosity!
This week we catch-up with Te Akau Assistant Trainer Sam Bergerson. Sam talks us through the week that's been including Imperatriz's close second in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes. Sam also discusses the week's winners including Cu Chulainn and Romancing the Moon at Wingatui, Fashion Shoot at Te Rapa and Tenebrosi at Taupo on Wednesday.
Sam and Hamish run through the cards at Pukekohe Park and Trentham. The Saturday tangerine team includes our unbeaten Karaka 2YO Million winner Tokyo Tycoon as he attempts to continue his hot streak in the Group 1 Sistema Stakes, a race Te Akau has won many times previously. Opie Bosson will be searching for his 10th win in this race and remarkably Opie has won this race eight times since 2011, four of those wins for Team Te Akau.
The Group 1 Bonecrusher Stakes is headlined by an emerging star in Campionessa. The Group 2 Rich Hill Mile winner this year, she ran a cracking second to Sharp 'N' Smart in the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes last start and we expect to see another competitive performance.
Te Akau will be line up two starters in the Group 2 Auckland Cup - Wellington Cup winner Leaderboard and Soprano Supreme - both for Fortuna Racing.
Sam also provides us with his Best Bet for the weekend.
We wish all the runners and their connections the very best of luck on this Auckland Cup Day. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, and passion to get to this point, and we know that everyone involved has contributed so much to make this day a success!
